Earlier this year, Los Angeles based John Tejada released "Year Of The Living Dead”. Recorded during the monumental uncertainty of 2020, this full length brought out a blissful extended moment of balance between the new and the familiar in his music. Now, Tejada invites some of his favourite producers to reinterpret tracks from the album – the legendary Warp duo Plaid set their signature style to “Abbot Of Burton, whereas Jimmy Tamborello’s Dntel project combines layers of blissful moments from “Echos Of Life” to the timbre of a flute. Lawrence is one of Kompakt’s most beloved, kindred spirits and he turns “Panacea” into a gorgeously soulful house crooner perfect for the late hours that go on and beyond. John Tejada takes a turn readapting his own album highlight “Sheltered” into a club ready mix.

Up next with the hieroglyphic wares are new-to-the-fold Dutch duo Ramses, alias Erik Buschmann and Wannes Salomé of Amsterdam-based outfit, Klangstof. Having known each other for the past fifteen years, the two of them started toying with their own electronic compositions over a year ago. Out of a string of free-form writing sessions, the material for Ramses then organically emerged, paving the way to deep, playful and climactic pieces of weightless electronics, aimed at reaching the summits of computer-aided escapism.

Ramses’ debut effort for Kompakt, “I Feel Nothing” EP, is made up of three cuts tied by their shared sense of ethereal timelessness and ample versatility. Starting off as a wonky house number, the title-track and debut single – which was actually the first track ever recorded by the duo – swiftly evolves into a pulsating crescendo of elegiac voices, opaque synthwork and cascading bleeps and bloops, eventually hatching into a soul-healing finale of piano-laced stasis.

Soulful and boogie-friendly to the core, “Born To Fail” fuses RnB-infused sampling with bubbling near-eastern components to weave its own distinctly mischievous genotype of jagged, goofy house outside anyone’s league or trend. Rounding off the package, dreamy drift “Groef” makes for a more subdued and sentient entry into Ramses’ ambient world, fusing bleached-out pads, slo-blooming keyboard flights and Sino-flavoured harmonics in one lavishly textured, oneiric tableau that keeps on shifting perspectives.

With the cover artwork for Pop Ambient 2022, longtime KOMPAKT graphic artist Veronika Unland has once again outdone herself. Following the almost baroque, blood-red and jet-black, extremely physical sculptures of Pop Ambient 2021, which emerged from a dark, floral sea like bodies erect for dancing, the front of 2022 is adorned with a pastel-white form, intertwined, folded many times and crisscrossed with delicate shading, which seems to float on a pale pink background; soft, gentle waves woven from Venetian colors that leave the viewer puzzled: Is it a flower, a coral, a mollusk? 

Again, the current edition of the tradition-steeped compilation series curated by Wolfgang Voigt is about the persistent and ever-necessary definition of beauty, of reduction, of electronic music of heavy lightness and light heaviness, of ambient's eternal promise of a state of physical and acoustic weightlessness and Pop's of redemption. And about the question why a never arbitrary combination of soundscape, drones, samples and loops, put together in a certain way, can create this feeling of warmth, depth and space, - something three-dimensional, where the imagination feels at home as a fish in the water or a bird in the sky. A key aesthetic stimulus that sends all the senses into a slow glide and drift, after which your synapses feel like they've been bathed in essential oil. Next to Soul, Ambient is probably the most effective musical healing plant of mankind. 

Behind the aural test tubes, the who's who of Pop Ambient is once again at work, led for the first time by the highly trafficked Californian duo Blank Gloss, whose debut album "Melt" this year was certified by The Guardian as nothing less than "heartaching beauty". Yui Onodera's "Chrome" as well as "Kari", a cooperation of Markus Guentner and Joachim Spieth, could also be imagined in the score of Denis Villeneuve's new film version of DUNE - however, colleague Hans Zimmer managed that quite well without the three. After such wonderful and stylish contributions by Reich & Würden, Triola and Thomas Fehlmann, the ear then lingers a bit longer on the ghostly "Weiht" by Morgen Wurde feat. Maria Estrella, a track like a temple of sound, a deep electronic immersion in a Japanese onsen. In this sea of unnameable time you could sink forever, but with the tracks of Andrew Thomas, Thore Pfeiffer and Max Würden & Pepo Galán the journey slowly comes to an end.

Cani & Jen founded the project and despite the name they are not crawling around Miami, but shining out their light from Mexico. The couple became one of the most prominent members of Mexico‘s vital electronic scene over the last decade. You can call their sound a rhythmic and synth-driven house and techno hybrid, with a disco and balearic twist, which is held together by the oh so sweet Italo Drama.

The two not only played in Dresden this summer, but also left a piece of their hearts here. With fragmented:select 4 they reduce their geographical distance one more time.

Between doing a remix with Salt’n Pepa’s original 16-track tapes of ‘Push it’, classical training at a conservatory, playing 5 instruments, founding, releasing records and touring with Indie pop band ‘The Jeremy Days’ in the 80’s, experiencing first hand the birth of acid house, rave and progressive techno, while living in London and Germany in the 90’s, you could certainly say Triggerstrøm has a wealth of experience.

Ask him why that matters in terms of his work as a DJ and you’ll get an answer like: "Because it helps to understand oneself and, with that, the people you play for - oh, and because it is actually a blast!”

Deftly balancing a challenging, yet highly intuitive eclecticism, his live sets are founded in House, Nu-Disco, Afrobeats, IDM, Electronica and Progressive House.

“When I go out to dance, I am hungry” he explains, “hungry for love, freedom, movement and inspiration. If the music of that night feeds some of those cravings and with that those of the audience and listener, I consider it a great night"

His all time fave car that he owned was a white 1979 SAAB 900S and also the same color coded ADIDAS basketball sneakers that matched it. 
He fears the depths of the oceans as much as he finds humor in awkward situations due to cultural differences. 
The less-is-more approach to food, music, architecture and design turns him on. 

Bulgarian-born, raised in Germany. Resident the past 10 years in Los Angeles, via London, NYC and Miami. Played the legendary Golden Pudel in Hamburg and also entertains private events. 

Triggerstrøm is currently resident DJ at Bar Stella in Silver Lake, Los Angeles
