The Forgotten Temple

As the dynamic track titles suggest, Dave Angel wanted to go all out Techno for his new release for John Digweed’s Bedrock. “Power” and “Venom” are two monumental tracks to mark another supreme return to the label from the Godfather of the UK’s Techno scene.

Knowing that John is a fan of that classic 303 bassline / acid sound and had previously given a lot of support to his “Tomahawk” track from the  “Voodoo EP” (Beddigi47), Dave felt it was time to delve deeply into the favourite toys that he’s been working creatively for the last couple of years - the TR-8 and TB-3 machines from the new Roland Aira Range, for this latest offering.

The distinctly weighty intro to “Power”, overlaid with the snap and hiss of perfect percussive hits, builds and builds with subtle ease via a simmering, bubbling analogue throb, sparse melodic flourishes and a supremely unhurried, teasing arrangement. The end result is a super-fuelled, energetic, euphoric masterclass of a track. 

Meanwhile, the speedy, hissing, bounce of “Venom” is also an instant winning formula, with layered, looping melodic hooks building all the track’s elements into a hip-swinging, funked-up monster. Both of these exceptional tracks demonstrate exactly why Dave remains such a driving force today, having evolved and matured stylistically over the years, since his early heart-stopping techno outings more than 2 decades ago.

Following on from the success of their 'Home' remix for label owners Icarus, Humans & Machines return with two stunning underground cuts for Fly Boy Records.

The lead track 'Push' is a slick, brooding piece with punchy chord stabs breaking the enveloping atmospheres. Punctuated with a solid house drum groove, precise percussion and a glorious low end, this is true peak time bliss!

Nothing Else Matters is a little more sinister, to say the least. A classic techno weapon at it's finest. This one just works!

Though the clubs and festivals shall remain closed for the foreseeable future, @kolsch has kept the beat alive with the release of four new tracks since the start of 2020. Thankfully he has not disappeared from the stage completely and has delivered a weekly flow of Sunday DJ sets from his studio to yours via Facebook. In true Kölsch style he has as usual tested and played new demos and tracks in his sets hinting that there is more new music to come... And that day has arrived. The third instalment / double single makes a huge entry with “The Great Consumer”. This is one of the best rhythms you will hear this year. Especially given that it mingles playfully around Kölsch’s signature synth melody and even harps at some point! “Remind You” finds Kölsch embracing a soulful side to his music…the tune shimmers with a fundamentally Detroit House vibe - trumpets and vocals duet to a relentlessly catchy rhythm. This track is pure jam. Truly a welcome soundtrack to sunnier days.
