Tibi Dabo returns with ‘Overture’, a third tantalising single from his forthcoming Crosstown Rebels album, with remixes from Map.ache and Aline Umber.

The first two singles from the project, ‘Triple Frontier’ and ‘Licht’, have shown what Barcelona’s Tibi Dabo is all about - forward-thinking electronic music with original drums (a result of him having toured the globe with his band) and plenty of cosmic twists and character. A label favourite having dropped his ‘Isla’ EP on Crosstown Rebels back in 2022, ahead of his much-anticipated debut LP comes this third superb taster from it.

The superb ‘Overture’ is an eight-minute gem with super smooth percussion and elastic grooves, with wispy sci-fi chords and gentle synth modulations. It’s full of future feels and catchy drum funk that is sophisticated and smartly detailed with choppedup vocal fragments.

First to remix is Leipzig’s Map.ache, co-founder of Kann Records and member of the Giegling family. His take builds with fatter drums that are just as infectious, while rippling synth loops weave in and out as flashy basslines cut loose and balmy pads add extra cosmic absence to a hypnotic mix of the heady and the physical.

Aline Umber, a collaborative live project from French composers, producers and DJs Aline Brooklyn and Aman Umber, are second to remix. They run the Airfunk label and are no stranger to playing cult spots like Rex Club in Paris. Their ‘23% Eventide’ mix is a blissed-out and synth-laced trip with subtle, smeared chords and starry-eyed keys that have you gazing off into the distance as you get lost in the warm drums.

The title track runs to almost 12 mins and although debated and discussed many times, both the artist and label felt the track needs this length to fully intoxicate a dance floor. It is, in short, a trip.

Mano Le Tough steps up on remix duties for Can't Stop and delivers his signature magic touch. Littered with live percussive elements, it takes the original to deeper hypnotic level before firing the machines into life and surprising the listener with a soaring hook and glittering melodies.

Come Close is a straight up, heads down techno roller, made for late nights and hazy mornings in special dancing spaces. Rounding off the release is, "Too Late But Sorry", a sweet track that is reminiscent early Kompakt records in its beauty and pace.

All four tunes have their place in any DJ set and already have found an adoring audience the world over, it's fair to say we are extremely proud to have this on Maeve.

We’re kicking off the new year in style with a fantastic new double header by RAXON. This Egypt-born, barcelonese powerhouse has left his scent marks all over the place in recent years. He has developed an instantly recognizable sound and that’s no small feat in these times shaped by so much formulaic dullness. “Your Fault” sees our Catalan hot shot in an exuberant disco mood. Jedipedia says, Beskar is a uniquely resistant iron that develops a wide range of properties - and colors - in the hands of skilled metalsmiths. Alright. Musically speaking, we’re dealing with a stealthy, funky as hell trance-not-trance juggernaut. 2024 is off to a good start!
