It's with great joy that we're announcing a new release by SASCHA FUNKE: his first Kompakt outing under his proper name in more than a decade, ZUG UM ZUG will please fans of both his solo productions and his work with Saschienne.

Title cut ZUG UM ZUG clearly tags the legacy, developing from rather humble beginnings, with just a few drone pads and a straight bass drum to show for - but that's all SASCHA FUNKE needs to establish a rather complex atmosphere. Added percussion and the introduction of sparse piano chords venture further into the eerily calm vortex at the heart of this track, making for a formidable, yet exitingly ambiguous listening experience.

Whenever Good Guy Mikesh drops new material on Riotvan, you’d better prick up your ears. Even though it’s been a while already, his last Riotvan release „No Other“ in collaboration with Filburt still makes our ears ring as one of the most unchallengeable house hymns of the last years. The current EP admittedly triggers the craving for sing-alongs a bit less. Instead, it formulates a self-confident outline of a very own electrified and blurred conception of the term house in all kinds of shades.

Right at the beginning, „Power Plant“ feeds the floors with massive energy thrusts. By no means can this be considered flimsy tree hugger soup. This track even shines in the detailed fizzy synths which condense on their way and lead to a bassy hook. When this eventually is mirrored in a glassy synth riff, which must be an echo from the electronic Mount Olympus, every power meter should rotate ecstatically.

“Havoc in the Stable” comes along more subtly with note repeat salves and a hunch of string in its structure. And Mikesh doesn’t even have to resort to the big vocal arrangements – the particular auto-sampling is catch enough.

After this, there is “Standing”, with its little feint in the beat modelling, the lush, gritty bass lines, the droning synths and an almost swaggering attitude to bank on dusty dryness in every respect, finally hunting the hornet swarm through the analogue synth.

The last track “Phoenix” sets another, incomparably tender example of poise. ‘Will’ and ‘Strong’ are continuously reverberating, and you don’t only buy this willpower from said track, which is founded on a piano undercoat and after the break escalates irresistibly, but from the entire EP; it radiates another four bright stars in Mikesh’s vast firmament somewhere between high songwriting ambitions and captivating floor virtues.

The EP comes as a 12-inch vinyl, is limited to 300 exemplars and will be released on February 6th 2015.

Isolée’s Arrival

When three people run a label together it is exceptionally rare to find a positive unified opinion of a record upon first listen. When Isolée sent his "Mangroove" EP to Maeve, this was in fact what happened. But it is Isolée after all....

Mangroove came about last summer when The Drifter happened to catch Isolée's live set at a festival in Switzerland. Instantly blown away by the A side "Pisco" he was determined to find out what it was and if it was to be released. After chatting, Isolée suggested that he would send "Pisco" along with a couple of other "demos" to Maeve and a few days later the EP was happening.

Isolée has created some of the most important and beautiful records of our generation and has being a huge influence on what we do, thus we are incredibly excited and humbled to release his work.

This three track EP shows several different sides of the Frankfurt native, from the A-side dance floor catalyst that is "Pisco" to the deeper dubbier B-sides of "L5 Syndrome" and "Mangrove". This is the perfect record to mark our tenth release.

Improvisation is the core of Bugge Wesseltoft's and Henrik Schwarz's collaboration. Technology and the joy of playing often meet and beautiful creations are formed somewhere between machine and human, balancing like a mobile delicately around a centre.  For "In Spite Of Everything" the duo plays on two opposite grand pianos. One is driven by Wesseltoft's emotional piano playing and the second is a so-called player piano, in which the keys are driven by motors and which Schwarz controls in real time with a computer program written especially for this piece. The program is highly reactive and sensitive, creating a sparkling piano duet of pulsating energy and wild dynamics.
SUNDAY-MUSIC RECORDS & BETWEEN BUTTONS jointly release two versions of this piece. A club version with extra bass, kick drum and strings, which was also heard in Henrik Schwarz's Cercle Liveset and another purely acoustic version, just with the sound of the two grand pianos, recorded during the live concert at Berlin's Radialsystem.

KOMPAKT welcomes back three dear friends – Copenhagen’s WhoMadeWho. Tomas Barfod’s penchant for electronic music poetically juxtaposed with Tomas Høffding and Jeppe Kjellberg’s respective backgrounds in rock and jazz, gives their music an electrifying combination of sounds, merging a variety of influences to produce a unique sonic fingerprint that is emotive, irresistible and immensely satisfying.

Though we both have yet to strike a note together since the release of their 2012 full length “Brighter” (KOM 254), WhoMadeWho have been remarkably productive. With two full lengths, a DJ mix for Watergate’s series and releasing two of 2019’s most played out club tracks together with Rampa (Innervisions) and Artbat (Watergate Records), the trio have found themselves diving more and more into the world of electronic music, tapping into their goldmine of connections within the scene to spearhead an array of collaborations.

The result is Synchronicity – a full length album to be released on November 13th.

The final chapter of our EP series is “Synchronicity III” – Kompakt’s fearless leader Michael Mayer joins forces with the trio to produce an outlandishly catchy house excursion. A throbbingly sexy groove twists around a nonsensically fun robo-disco vocal. Terr makes serious waves these days – from her exceptional releases on Phantasy, Correspondant, Permanent Vacation to released and operating own imprint Clash Lion they come up with “Falling Out” – an exclusive to this EP. This is the ultimate duet – her vocals harmonise with the band under flow with the perfect rhythm and beat of disco-fied refinement. Next up is Rebolledo – Mexico’s ambassador of dance floor devotion and one half of the legendary Pachanga Boys. A dear friend to the house of Kompakt. “Chaser” fuels those travellers of the night – a soundtrack for another dimension. Last but not least, fans will rejoice as Adana Twins return with a second collaboration together with the band. The clang of the cowbell is clear as a twisted guitar twangs to an ominous 4/4 rhythm.

Label owners, Tiefschwarz, have hand-picked the artists who represent the breadth and variety of Souvenir’s extensive roster to join them on an the all-encompassing, pre-festival season musical adventure and compilation package. Every participating artist has given an exclusive track to the project – compiled in 3 separate parts (released on vinyl and digital) the EPs will be released throughout the duration of the tour starting on the beginning and the end of April with he final installment dropping on the middle of May.
