“Eye”, the second half of Psymbionic’s “Parallels” album, reveals the velvety side of this versatile producer’s toolbox. Fluid and tender, these five songs vary in style yet manage to retain a common thread; each track fits into the downtempo realm in opposition to Part 1’s bass heavy, driving nature. While keeping the listener attentive, Psymbionic tactfully merges passionate melody and intricate rhythms into his cultivated sound, showing off a spectrum of creativity. Released in partnership with Gravitas Recordings, the album is available as a free/pay-what-you-want download. 

The talented vocalist Cristina Soto takes the wheel with the “One Thing”, delivering powerful edge to the warm original production. Sensual violin, cooked up by modern virtuoso Govinda, is given center stage on the future garage influenced How Am I Not Myself. Teaming up with fellow Gravitas Recordings artists, Psymbionic delivers the polished yet dynamic Silkscreen in collaboration with southern California’s Soulular. Next comes Sonder, a wonky, beat driven affair crafted in the mountains of Colorado with The Digital Connection. ill-esha closes things out with a bouncy street-bass rendition of Silkscreen made to animate crowds of all flavors.

Twelve: A number that conjures myriad connotations. For most of us it’s the essential measurement of black gold, the source of mystery that can only be extracted through a fine stylus. For others, it’s a way of measuring half days and dozens, zodiac signs or apostles. For Sorrow, it’s his latest EP.

Five stark, soul-arresting narratives deep, once again the Bristol beatsmith compounds his distinctive icy, introspective signature with rich detail, emotion and cavernous shadowy dynamics. His first full solo release of 2017, and his first EP on Inspected in over two years, ‘The Twelve’ follows a run of critical excursions, cameos and collaborations on the likes of Fent Plates and White Peach and continues to build on his unique status within the electronic game.

From the opening house subversions and foggy, mystical humanised textures of ‘Want U Back’ right through to the final smouldering beat abstractions and soft groans of the breath-taking title track finale, the entire EP is a trip into Sorrow’s innermost soul. In between we’re hit by the two-step trickery of ‘Reverie’, the heavy haze of ‘Frumoasa’ and the unabashed slo-mo gully of ‘Sheol’, each chapter telling its own Sorrowful tale, alluring you and spurring you to further corners of your thoughts… conjuring myriad connotations, like all good sources of mystery should.

Chicago-based chillout producer, Edamame, delivers his 14-track album, Bask on Gravitas Recordings. The project is a balmy breeze, warping through feelings of absolute bliss and unadulterated serenity. While the compositions embrace an ambient motif, expressive percussion and graceful melodies weave energy throughout. Fans of CloZee, Bonobo, and Random Rab will resonate with this release.

Setting the tone for the album, “Kishi Kaisei” blends angelic vocals with vivid drums. On “Sable,” Edamame and his Loci Records cohort Tor construct a dreamlike state through atmospheric and hypnotic sounds. The title track “Bask” tides in and out with a soothing bassline, feathered synths, and subtle vocals. “Passim”, which features the illustrious Emancipator, romances the ear drums by way of steelpan, sitar, and rolling percussion that culminates into a sensual outro.
