Nothing "slipped" away, it was just a gradually rising high picked noise that started off so faint you weren't aware of it then rose and filled your every being to the point that you realized this had been there all along.  A soundtrack to your daily life, a leeching hum, waiting, patient and unremitting till the point it would come forth and make itself known.

All the moment leading up to this started to matter less and less.  The sound was all, the whole, the everything.

The screen of life flickered, suddenly that was the background sound.  had it ever even been real at all?

"Ella"

There was peace here, almost, it beckoned and parted without effort, like leaning on a fence with no support, except there was no resulting pain falling to the floor.  You just kept on falling.

"Ella!"

The voice grew more insistent it was like bullets in the water, and like them they brought sharp pain.

"ELLA"

Her ears rang, everything was loud.  Her infinitesimal existence suddenly thrust her up from singularity to universe and she gasped, excruciating pain mingled with the noise as it let go, its cloying tendrils saying "I will be back".  She coughed violently as something hard and unyielding hit her chest.
