Thomas + James are a DJ & prodution duo from Glasgow’s West End. Growing up surrounded by electronic music, they began experimenting with production apps at just 10 years young and mixing on decks by 13. Clubbing in Glasgow has nurtured, shaped and matured their sound, with the backdrop of world renowned clubs like Sub Club, The Berkeley Suite and La Cheetah where they have flourished over a year long residency.

Following an introduction by a well known native, it was obvious the duo's sound was highly aligned with Verdant Recordings, fusing deep house, dub techno and minimal grooves. For  a teenage duo, their sound is refined, seasoned and well informed.

Insignia EP drifts between hazy dub techno textures and stripped-back deep minimal house with a 'wee hours' dance floor focus. Patiently arranged tracks swell with warm low-ends, atmospheric pads and precision tuned percussion. Ulf & Ralf revise the title track in their unique and unpredictable fashion for a gentler comedown.

You said you've worked on this thing 8 months, doesn't it ever concern you that people won't like it?

Yeah that's a big concern, yeah. And it happens, you know, you get a little of each. I think from the artist's perspective, it's never as – probably as, nice as it seems to other people, or as bad, you know. You get some good things from every project you do. 

Why is it called "Assiette De Fromage," autobiographical?

To an extent, yeah. It's kind of a general statement, really, about-

About your attitude now?

I think so, yeah. 

Always a good look to the future? 

I think so, especially, you know after so many albums, or so many years doing things, you definitely realize you're still here, you're still alive.

Café Kitsuné Mixed by Young Franco

This week we welcome one of Bristol's fastest rising production and DJ talents L U C Y to our mix series. Initially making a name for herself as an instrumental grime producer, Lucy demonstrates an ability to venture way beyond these boundaries, showcasing the best of the UK underground in just one mix, seamlessly powering through breaks, dubstep, garage, d&b, grime, jungle, footwork, funky and more.

Honing her skills since the age of 15 as a producer, Lucy's now racking up regular radio and DJ gigs with recent appearances on Boiler Room, Just Jam and Keep Hush to name a few. Part of Six Figure Gang alongside Jossy Mitsu, Sherelle, Fauzia, Dobby and Yazzus the crew show no signs of slowing down. The future is bright.

We look forward to welcoming her to the fort for the final edition this summer. Catch her on land and sea alongside some other stellar DJ talents. Expect heavyweight selections and a high-octane performance guaranteed to set the party alight.
