Another one for the books! It has always been an honor and one of my highlights each year to play at Underworld at Kiez Burn. Here's my one-and-a-half hours of the journey through Friday night. It was an absolute blast. This year I especially enjoyed pretending to be a classical conductor for a few moments. Thank you once again to the whole Kiez Burn community for co-creating this beautiful gathering and a special thanks goes out to the Underworld crew for providing such a playful space to get lost in the music. Beginning Anew

To begin anew is to look deeply and honestly at ourselves, our past actions, speech and thoughts and to create a fresh beginning within ourselves and in our relationships with others. When a difficulty arises in our relationships and one of us feels resentment or hurt, we know it is time to Begin Anew. The practice of Beginning Anew helps us develop our kind speech and compassionate listening. Begin Anew is a practice of recognition and appreciation of the positive elements for the people within our community. Recognizing others positive traits allows us to see our own good qualities as well.
The health and happiness of the whole community depends on the harmony, peace and joy that exists between every member.

Having moved to Berlin, this is kind of the Beginning of Anew for me. This week’s Étude is a piece you might have already heard if you listened to the Ambient Live Set on Nie Wieder Schlafen's YouTube channel (@niewiederschlafen - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1WDycZ1vmk&t=1s). I made this one sometime in late September / early October 2017, while having a late night rendez-vous with the Korg Minilogue Synthesizer. This piece turned into what you’re hearing now within a couple of hours rather naturally, consisting of 4 tracks only, all made with the Minilogue Synth, some Reverb and Delay. That’s it.

Similar to last week’s Étude, Étude No. 06 is an ambient, calm piece consisting of four elements: piano, synth, organ and something-like-rhodes. I treated myself with a new piano recently and just by playing around with my new best friend I got inspired to write this piece. It’s rather short, it’s a bit mysterious throughout and it ends quite unexpectedly - I like it. And like with every new piece it comes with new learnings and insights - for example how easy it can be to compose a song when focusing on a few main elements. Overall I have to say it just feels good to be back at the piano after six long years of not really playing much.

Étude No. 07 w/ Farn

It's been a long time waiting for the week that is ahead. Also a lot of fun work, and this is exactly how it should be. In great anticipation of the Kiez Burn festival that will be happening from the 20th-24th of June, I put together a selection of music to get you in the mood for some desert vibes. Together with amazing people I'm working on bringing the Zerzura oasis to Kiez Burn, a soundcamp that will create a space for groove-hungry nomads to shake their booties. From Dust Till Dawn

I tried out the new Echo plugin of Ableton, created an audio effect rack and just had the Korg Minilogue running through it. The Echo Plugin has a cool tape delay kind of feel, that you can hear when the delay time is changing and creating these nice pitch glitch effects. Most time was spent creating the FX chain, before recording one take.

Oh, such wonderful times. 

Spending a Friday night with my dear friends, new and old ones, hanging out in Hütte at Ritter Butzke, in a very laid-back environment, which felt like the extension of our living room. While the Into The Desert party was running on full-steam, we were enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of this space to connect, bond, and groove. After my good friend https://soundcloud.com/farn-berlin opened the floor, I took over with a 2h DJ set and finally closed the stage with this live set. With big gratitude for everything that happened that night, I hope this set allows you to look deeply within yourself.

Much <3 to the Into The Desert crew for the opportunity to take over Hütte, and thus enabling this magnificent night!

I created this piece based off some midi files generated with an algorithm provided by Wolfram Alpha (tones.wolfram.com/generate/). Those midi files had interesting melodies in them, but it was quite tricky to fit them into the typical 4-bar loop pattern. So I stuck to their original loop size of 3-something bars, which felt like it was creating its own rhythm. The original bpm inside of Ableton was 85, however it feels like the piece plays at 120bpm. A fun experiment.

Oh so much yes! What a magnificent vibe has been created by everyone participating at the Kiez Miez Decompraiser - the Decompression & Fundraiser event by the Kiez Burn community. Where words cannot come close to describing the wonderful connections that have been made, I let the music speak for herself. Hope you'll enjoy reliving the night with this one-and-a-half hour set.

The vocals are by Eckhart Tolle - a spiritual teacher and the author of “The Power of Now”, one of the most influential books for me personally. Wow, Borderland, this was incredible. Thank you to everyone for co-creating this wonderful event, and a special thanks to @mrkuusk and @tomyjama for their invitation to the @muumimaa wonderland. It was such a beautiful last night that started with this set, the night of the burn. I will keep this memory close to my heart. Hope you enjoy this 2-hour journey that is going all kinds of weird places, from ambient to techno, full of different colors and energies, just like Borderland itself.
