2013 was an insanely big year for DC Breaks outings on Ram Records as the likes of 'Swag' dominated the Beatport number one for nine weeks and other heavyweight cuts scored support from DJs in every corner and continent. 

2014 looks set to continue the onslaught. And it starts right here with 'Lock In / Shakedown', a dynamite double header designed purely for total dancefloor obliteration. Get to know:

'Lock In' kicks off with serious intent: a sharp, clipped riff and trembling, emotive pads set the dramatic scene before we're hurled into a thick bass fray. The low end roars and stretches as DC Breaks trademark drum science surges through the mix. And with additional breakbeats peppering the fills with chop-slapping cymbal splashes and chest-pressing double-kicks, an intense dynamic is maintained throughout. Handle with care... This one's dangerous.

'Shakedown' upholds the Bristol/London duo's menacing message as we're instantly sucker-punched with nagging middy notes, subtle bass tears and a pensive build-up. Before we know it, we're surrounded in a swarm of basses, each one soaring and sneering, buzzing and biting, vying for our full focus. As a cool tape-stop effect to introduce us to the breakdown, the rebuild and second drop live up to the track title in every way: this is guaranteed to shake your dancefloor so hard it's pretty much criminal.

‘Dogs and Cats' is a feral animal, one filled with ominous distortion and a carefully padded intro. Drums take the lead, flicking quickly between an ebbing and flowing bassline. Elevating and falling note patterns take you steeply from each segment; it's not long before the pace is slowed and you're allowed to fully take in your sonic surroundings. Drum & Bass has always been an interesting phenomenon in Poland. Although not often attributed as being one of its primary bases in Europe, it’s produced some of the most exciting talent to come forward across the scene. And one of these artists is 20 years old 174bpm stalwart Adrian Rybka, who also goes by his pseudonym Satl. Having had regular support from the likes of heavyweight DJs Fabio & Grooverider, Friction, LTJ Bukem, Artifical Intelligence and DJ Marky, he’s become a staple on the European club circuit.

Having already had releases on the likes of Innerground, SGN:LTD, Integral and more, ‘From Time’ sees him move onto the Soul Trader imprint. Alongside collaborator Harland, his first offering ‘Alone’ takes you into sub-terranean levels, moving away from any of the more commercial sounds which have littered drum & bass and instead provides an intimidating soundscape. If this track is anything to go by, neither Satl nor Harland are prepared to wind down their production standard and instead go in all guns blazing, with smashing kick and a sub bass that ricochets from start to finish.

‘Woogie’ comes first, featuring rolling beat patterns and distorted bass crackling throughout its intro. Slowly but surely the track breaks, with blasting kick drum and clattering percussion rushing across the mix. The record focuses heavily on the hook which drives between every break, creating a groove that’s impossible to pull yourself away from.

Our next Dispatch LTD release comes from Russian producer Black Barrel, who brings us a sublime debut in ‘The Void EP’. The Saint Petersburg resident encapsulates soulful simplicity in this four track EP, with the elements stripped right back and superfluous sounds eliminated to focus purely on the groove; the intensity cuts to the core, appearing almost effortless.  A skilful manipulation of lower frequencies allows each track to stand out, from the mischievous technicalities of ‘Void’ to the subtle melancholies of ‘Osteopath’. A superb first release with us, we are excited to see what’s next from Black Barrel.
