The Brvtalist is proud to present a new mix from Pierce With Arrow. The collaborative project of minimal techno pioneer Troy Pierce and Colombian audiovisual artist Natalia Escobar aka Poison Arrow, recently released their collaborative debut, Shatter (DAIS), which is a powerful work of sound and visual art. Veering from the producers’ well known dance floor oriented sound, Shatter is a cinematic record which masterfully weaves through different emotions and atmospheres. Their mix for us takes their sound and constructs a mind bending journey.

dBridge presents Exit Records (The Aptitude Show) - 02 November 2023

In the year 1975 Conrad Schnitzler recorded various pieces of music to accompany films which had yet to be made. Fittingly, he labelled this collection of songs "Filmmusik". The music is extraordinarily accessible for Schnitzler: hypnotic bass lines, stoic drum rhythms, dark drones, crystalline shards of melody. "Filmmusik 2" features five tracks from the 1975 recordings plus one 23 minute track called "Lichtpunkte und schwarze Zeichen", recorded in 1978 for Schnitzler's film project of the same name.  With over 15 years at the controls, and as an integral part of the aptly named Subversive Music, Braue has hosted and played alongside such house and techno luminaries as The Black Madonna, Daniel Bell, DVS1, Efdemin, Joey Anderson, Prosumer, Steffi.. the list goes on. 

 A classically trained pianist, natural musicality and attention to fine detail are hallmarks of Braue's sound. Whether recording as Coral Beech (Panal Records, Rhombus), performing as Braue or pushing things forward through events and record label (UBU) with brother and collaborator "Jesse Bru", Braue's impeccable taste, profound musical knowledge and attitude are always front and centre. 

  Recent time spent in Berlin and beyond have pushed Braue to hone and sharpen a formidable arsenal of moody, tough and worldly sounds crafted for the discerning dance floor.

We grew up listening to Swayzak albums "Snowboarding In Argentina", "Himawari", "Dirty Dancing" or their "Groovetechnology v1.3" compilation(couldn't afford an original pressing of "Bitstream - Monolith" back in those days) so when we had the opportunity to deliver a mix by this legendary name, we just couldn't refuse it. Poison Arrow is the new endeavor of Colombian artist Natalia Escobar. She makes music that infuses Berlin decadence with Colombian Grit, reflecting her experience working with audio visual installations and Dj-ing in many places from Säule at Berghain to fashion events for the likes of Alyx. She is mixing her Colombian roots with hypnotic, provocative electronic music. Her first release ‘If You Don’t Love me (I’ll Cut Your Face)’ is inspired by the song ‘La Cuchilla’ by Las Hermanitas Calle, icons of Carrilera music a regional folk scene that emerged as a means of catharsis from broken hearts and as a respite from the hard-working and sometimes violent existence of the local coffee farmers life. Poison Arrow provides a modern interpretation of this unique cultural heritage; the results are bass heavy, intense tracks that are sexy, confrontational and refreshingly unexpected.

Following the release of her debut EP If You Don’t Love Me (I’ll Cut Your Face), Poison Arrow presents the remixes; a two-track limited edition dubplate with additional productions of Casa Show from Heart Drive (dBridge and Kid Drama) and of “If You Don’t Love Me (ill Cut Your Face)” from Nathan Jonson.

Heart Drive’s long awaited reunion comes in the form of “Slow Bleed Mix”, a throbbing, rhythmic arousal, where you can hear dislocated seductive vocalizations that tease your mind until it burst into a sudden climax of red--evoking the spirit of the Colombian cantina for broken hearts that inspired the original title of “Casa Show”.

Nathan Jonson’s interpretation of “If You Don’t Love Me (ill Cut Your Face)” is like a fever dream of the original, drifting in and out of consciousness while presenting a series of hallucinatory revelations. “Falling In Love Even Though Is A Trap Mix”  tips its hat to the heyday of electro while boldly predicting its future.

The conceptual experience from Damian Lazarus and his team of dedicated and visionary musicians and artists lies just three short days away. In speaking to Defected recently about what fans can expect, Damian says: “Partying has actually become quite safe; you buy your ticket to an event and can pretty much imagine exactly how it will pan out before you walk through the door. I love the idea of creating something where there is an uncertainty; where there is room for the element of surprise... some kind of danger and mystery. I think Day Zero offers these exciting qualities.” The genesis of this was a spiritual experience that followed a conversation with a Shaman on the beach in Tulum where Lazarus raised his hands to the moon and felt the presence of an “electric force field.”

Considering this, it’s hard not to feel the hairs on the back of your neck start to tingle as you imagine what is to come. The feeling that accompanies dancing with your favorite friends and strangers to the underground’s best artists amongst ancient pyramids constructed by a race of people who felt their calendar didn’t need the ability to forecast past the day in which the event will take place surely won’t be something we’ll ever forget.

In advance of this fantastic, magical adventure, which at one point felt too far in the future to feel real, Thugfucker and Shaun Reeves have graciously teamed up to put together their Timewave(day)zero podcast which seems an appropriately deep and introspective aural journey of introspective reflection. It’s more chill than pumping but is 100% something that will positively inform your soul’s position along the spiritual horizon. So whether or not you’ll be making the pilgrimage to Day Zero this millennium, get this in you now.
