EMEX is the emergent techno project of George Apergis who is the owner of Modular Expansion. George Apergis is an established techno DJ, with a career of more than 20 years in electronic and techno music. His first release was for Omega Audio in 2005 and after that followed releases and remixes in labels such us Bellboy, LCR, Paranoid Dancer, Sabotage and many more. He performs already in 2002 at the legendary old Tresor in Berlin, along-side the performances at Moog – Macarena in Barcelona, Neon in Moscow and Luzztro in Warsaw. His releases “Quelle” and “Ekhowax” on Modular Expansion with remixes from artists like Truncate, Zadig, NX1 and Johannes Volk were highly successful and they have been supported from worldwide artists.
In 2014 George Apergis creates EMEX; an emergent techno project which his signatures sound is an eminent mix of hard techno beats, minimal acid synth-lines and dub chords. EMEX has releases on Modular Expansion, Etruria Beat, Syxt, Credo, Demarcation and Konsequent. EMEX has released already five vinyls on Modular Expansion. In 2015 released its debut vinyl powered by KORG, which entitled "00110001" and won the Silver Award at European Design Awards. Follow the releases of "Z80A", "Hyperion", "Zex" and "Mimas" on Modular Expansion along-side with the releases on Credo Records, Syxt Berlin and Demarcation Records. In 2019 did a bomb remix on Bastian Balders - Jukka on Konsequent records. This year starts with the release of "Himalia" on Etruria Beat of Luca Agnelli and "Zeuxo" on Syxt Berlin.
EMEX music has been remixed by artists like Alexander Kowalski, Brian Sanhaji, Subjected, Radial, SLV, Progression and Developer. Also, EMEX music has been supported by world-class artists such as Chris Liebing, Marcel Dettmann, Luke Slater, Tommy Four Seven, DVS1, Rødhåd, Jonas Kopp, Bas Mooy, The Advent, Ilario Alicante, Slam, Dax J, SNTS to name but a few.
EMEX aka George Apergis plays dj-sets only with vinyls and has performed already alongside artists such as The Advent, Drumcell, Monoloc, Truncate, Terence Fixmer, Ø [Phase], Shifted, Answer Code Request, Subjected, Brian Sanhaji, Distant Echoes, Psyk, Kevin De Vries, Ness and many more. The results of EMEX success are the performances at Berghain, Tresor, Suicide Circus, Sisyphos, the legendary Clubs in Berlin, Werkhaus in London, Rashõmon and Städlin in Rome and at the most prestigious clubs in Athens.

As part of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture’s 2024 program “All of Greece, One Culture”, Modular Expansion organized “Phygital”, an immersive event showcasing live audiovisual performances. These performances blended digital and physical-analog musical instruments, complemented by digital projection. The event took place at Rio Castle in collaboration with the Greek National Opera and the Archaeological Service.
The Phygital event is structured into three distinct live music performances of contemporary electronic music artists George Apergis and Alex Retsis, alongside simultaneous digital artwork projections by the artistic group DEN. This includes visual haikus, a collage of brief micro-compositions combining instrumental and synthetic forms, connected by a deconstructive and unpredictable storytelling.
In the first hour, the audience had the experience of a digital live music performance by Qebo (Alex Retsis), featuring a blend of electroacoustic and ambient music inspired by the architecture of the castle. The second hour highlights the EMEX project by George Apergis and Alex Retsis, blending physical-analog instruments with digital technology to offer a dynamic interplay between digital and analog sounds. The final hour was dedicated to an analog live performance where George Apergis will exclusively use vinyl records. The DT:Premiere we selected is the final track “Giedi Prime” that is a wonderful mix of deep atmospherics and a chunky club rhythm. Light and airy, the long organic breakdown feels rather lush, before the jackin’ spaced out groove switches it up again and keeps it moving.

After a 5-year hiatus, Damage Music Berlin is back with label-head Alexander Kowalski’s first release since his last full-length record „Cycles“ on Mord in May 2018. „The Path“ EP features 3 swirling, muddy techno tracks which encapsulate the spirit of the artist’s Berlin studio where they were produced, and amplify to big room techno. Making use of his strong-headed percussion work, Alexander Kowalski either injects full-throttle driving muscle, like in title track „The Path“, marks the pace for a deeper trip with „Moment of Knowledge“, or dims it down to a somber mood in the B2 „Thoughts of a Dying Atheist“. Non-Series head Psyk signs his take on title track „The Path“ with a remix that showcases the Spanish producer’s mastery in loopy, hypnotic techno.

Konsequent Records is a Berlin-based techno label founded in 1997 in Cologne by Maral Salmassi. In the early years, Konsequent was home to some of the first releases by artists like Christian Morgenstern or Alexander Kowalski. Modular Expansion was founded by George Apergis and has run successfully, since 1998. The name “Modular Expansion” is inspired from the first analog modular synthesizers of which different parts were connected between each-other, forming an expansion.Modular Expansion is a cultural body of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and has to its credit actions with the auspices and financial support of the Ministry of Culture and the Municipality of Athens. Actions such as vinyl releases, art videos and publishing events. He is also a European Design Award holder, Silver Award in 2016 in the category Music & Films Covers.
