I samband med utställningen This song is for… (Gabrielle Goliath, 2019) släpper Konsthall C poddavsnitt om könsbaserat våld tillsammans med Viktoria Löwenthal. Likt utställningen berör samtalet den personliga och politiska kamp som följer våld i nära relation. I podden diskuterar Viktoria eftervåld och rättsosäkerhet tillsammans med Daniella, som själv är överlevare av våld i nära relation. Viktoria berättar:

– Kvinnor som utsatts för våld i nära relation tror att de i samband med att de anmäler brottet ska kunna få se någon slags rättvisa skipas. I stället börjar en förnedrande och ganska vansklig process, där kränkande behandling, skammande och en enorm utsatthet blir offrets nya vardag. Från aska till elden - nej kanske inte - men från ett helvete till ett annat, ja absolut!

As part of the program for the exhibition This song is for… (Gabrielle Goliath, 2019), Konsthall C releases a podcast episode on gender-based violence together with Viktoria Löwenthal (in Swedish). Like the exhibition, the podcast talks about the personal and political struggle that follows violence in a close relationship. In the podcast, Viktoria discusses violence, it’s aftermath and legal uncertainty together with Daniella, who is herself a survivor of violence in a close relationship. Viktoria says:

- Women who’ve been subjected to violence in a close relationship believe that in connection with reporting the crime, they should be able to see some kind of justice done. Instead, a humiliating and rather difficult process begins where abusive treatment, shame and enormous vulnerability become the victim's new everyday life. From ashes to fire - no maybe not - but from one hell to another, yes definitely!

Managing Selector #2: Risk and Reward

Why and how to practice decoloniality through the curatorial?
Decolonizing the curatorial will investigate how emergent decolonial discourses should impact the curatorship of contemporary visual arts in the Nordic region today.
The presence of disputed memories and contemporary colonial narratives in exhibi-tion making forces us to enquire how these narratives are embraced. Although these questions motivate a socially engaged curatorial practice, they do not essentially lead to a decolonial curatorial process. Using the concepts of decoloniality and decolonial
aesthetics is a rather recent progress which is exposed by the prevailing disconnection between policy and practice.
Together with curators and researchers from Copenhagen, Malmö, Nuuk, Helsinki and Sápmi we explore the languages and practices of decolonization in the North and the HOW in taking an active position in decolonizing the curatorial and include an intersectional thinking across gender, environment, geographies.

We are delighted present the outcome of Valentina Karga’s workshop for collaborative storytelling, based on her artwork CIRCLE #1 (presented within Performing the Fringe). Expert Dimitris Savvaidis and participants Lili, Emelie and Yari narrate their collective story After the Crisis, composed during the workshop. Enjoy!

CIRCLE #1 is an infrastructure for collective storytelling. It was presented at Konsthall C as part of the group exhibition Performing the Fringe (13.3–14.6 2020), curated by Inga Lâce and Jussi Koitela.

Artist bio:
Valentina Karga’s work operates between art, design, research, and architecture. It draws together elements of socially engaged practices and speculative exper- iments that question the existing social and physical infrastructures within the realms of energy, economy, and sustainability. Among others, her work has been shown at the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Athens, transmediale festival in Berlin, Athens Biennial, Thailand Biennial, Moscow Biennial for Young Arts, Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma in Helsinki,and a major exhibition, ‘A Thousand Doors’, curatedby Whitechapel Gallery. Since 2018 she is a professor at Hochschule für bildende Künste (HFBK), Hamburg.

After the Crisis

Konsthall C is an art space situated in an old laundry room at Cigarrvägen in Hökarängen. There is also a minor space called Centrifug, which is open for anyone to book for shorter exhibitions.
