Neil McDonald's love of the outdoors is a constant feature in his music, hence his Lord Of The Isles (@lordoftheisles) moniker, a direct reference to the Highlands and islands of his native Scotland.

His vivid, effervescent and blissfully cinematic sound paints a soundtrack to unmade films, building imaginary worlds inspired by his childhood passion for science fiction. It is therefore no coincidence that the closing track 'Subtle Thoughts' samples the inimitable voice of Carl Sagan and is also the name of his forthcoming album on Lapsus Records.

Subtle Thoughts' is an album of sumptuous melancholic electronica that, like all his previous works, avoids being pigeonholed. In it we find ambient and IDM, but also breaks and down-tempo 4x4 beats with deep ruminations, and even passages akin to new age and Balearic. In Neil's own words, the real concept behind 'Subtle Thoughts' is "The spaces in between. Listening to the quiet voices. Freedom of expression and being open. It also contains my hopes and fears for the future of our world, but mainly hope and love".

Kontra-Musik returns with a new release on its sought after, vinyl only, white label series. The label that from the start has celebrated analogue expressions of dance music, this time presents long time label collaborator PST (famous for brilliant releases on labels like Workshop, Sued and Kontra-Musik).
On the a-side PST brings us a 15-minute-long analogue techno meltdown. The track is so powerful the vinyl almost melts when played. On the flip the mood is different. The title of the first track, Houseparty +, is to say the least very revealing before PST ends the EP with his signature mood music house sound. PST is a master of his craft, and it is with joy and pride we release a new, hand stamped vinyl after a few years of Covid hiatus.

ZSA ZSA Mix No. 1 is recorded by Philip Berg from Frankfurt, Germany.  

In the late 2000s, @philip_berg began to organize off-location parties in Frankfurt, inviting the likes of Vladimir Ivkovic, Alexis Le-Tan, Phuong Dan and Tolouse Low Trax to bring a different and sometimes more challenging sound to his hometown. Soon after, he started his own night Blind Bodies at the Robert Johnson club in Offenbach. Over the years, he played at clubs like Salon des Amateurs in Düsseldorf, 20/44 in Belgrade, Garage Noord in Amsterdam, Ankali in Prague, Arma17 in Moscow and the Shelter in Shanghai. On the festival circuit, he’s made appearances at Dekmantel Selectors, Positive Education, Digital Tsunami and more.

Last summer Sunju Hargun’s Siamese Twins imprint shared their second pan-Asian compilation which gave a spotlight to artists who are exploring ambient and psychedelic terrain. The cassette release, titled Kāthā - a Khmer and Thai name for sacred mantras that are chanted to bring protection and charm - featured music from Khun Fluff, Nic Ford, Mogambo, Temple Rat and more. The label have brought on board a new roster of artists who offer up their own takes on the original material; there’s a rhythmic low end excursion from Konduku; a double offering from Jonathan Kusuma; and a modulated IDM trip from Higher Intelligence Agency.

For the second release on Lord Of The Isles’s (@lordoftheisles) Dusk Delay imprint we see the Kimochi Sound and Hanagasumi regular, Shine Grooves deliver one of his best organic electronic odysseys to date. Spanning 6 tracks; it masterfully traverses an exciting intergalactic sonic landscape. Aptly titled ‘Pictures Of Mood’, the EP conjures vivid imagery through evocative deep experimental introspection, soul enhancing optimism and eyes-closed dancefloor dreaming.
