Remade this a while ago. Figured now's the right time to upload this. I know some of ya'll might hate me for doing this, but this was, is and will be my favorite Dilla beat. Was listening to Herbie that day, and the thought of doing this remake just wouldn't let me be... I do these things every now and then, these classic beat remakes I mean, just for the fun of it. I dig for the right samples and just have my fun with it. And belive me, it takes a lot of skill and effort to do this. I'm sure/know many other beatmakers do this as well. Cheers! Following up his recent contribution to the DTW free download series with vocalist Shirah Cheezer, ECHLN brings you a fresh, laid back hip-hop joint featuring MCs FonZo and Angelo Quila. ‘Step’ was conceived at a time when ECHLN wanted to steer his productions toward the dancefloor, yet still retain the mellow vibe that had become a signature of his sound. The result is a bouncy, slow burning beat, accented with spacy percussion and tied together by an infectious, effortless hook. 

Kwetsima Maluleke a.k.a ECHLN (pronounced echelon) is a South African born music producer and sound engineer. He was born and raised in Pretoria and now lives in Cape Town. Since 2009, ECHLN has been forging a unique blend of R&B and hip-hop glued together by uniquely South African soulful elements.

Had this in the vault. felt like it will be a great way to pay homage to an individual who was heavily present in so many peoples lives (mine included) thanx to the music that he gave us. It so sad to hear news like this. He seemed so full of life when I first heard about him and i'm pretty sure he still was hence why I deemed appropriate to upload a beat that could brighten the mood just like the way he brighten our lives through his music.
