«Connection Through the Dreams» is one of the 111 poems chosen by Marina Tsvetaeva to be included into her first poetry collection “The Evening Album”. The title was a concealed dedication. It was the name of the navy blue leather-bound album Tsvetaeva and her sister gave as a present for the New Year of 1910 to V. O. Nilender, a poet and translator. The album had scripts of the conversations he’d had with Tsvetayva sisters written down in it. Some of the poems from “The Evening Album” are clearly the seeds from which quite a few of themes, constant in Tsvetaeva’s poetry, would grow later. “Connection Through the Dreams” is one such poem, the forerunner of the “A Dream” cycle. This song is about mystical ways of communication between people.

«Связь через сны» — одно из ста одиннадцати стихотворений, отобранных Мариной Цветаевой для её первого сборника «Вечерний альбом». Это было скрытое посвящение. Так назвали сестры Цветаевы темно-синий кожаный альбом, который они подарили поэту и переводчику В. О. Нилендеру на новый 1910 год, записав туда свои беседы с ним. Из некоторых стихов «Вечернего альбома» вырастет в будущем не одна заветная тема Цветаевой. Таково стихотворение «Связь через сны» — предтеча цикла «Сон». Эти стихи— о мистическом способе общения, предназначенном для того, чтобы сохранить тайны между двумя людьми. Песня получилась такая же: воздушная и волшебная.

Молодость/The Youth

Marina Tsvetaeva’s poem “Youth” consists of two parts that were written within a few days of each other. Our “Youth” is the second part that opens with the line «Soon from swallows - into sorcerers…». 

What is youth? Where is that line that marks the beginning of aging? Can one ever know when they crossed that line and started to walk on the path of growing old? There are certain labels that Marina Tsvetaeva attributes to the youth: «my tan one», «waste of my soul», «my insane one», «my gold». All of this is also supplied by references to the crimson colour that symbolizes passion, brashness and self-abandonment common in young people. It’s curious how Tsvetaeva addresses “the youth” as if it were a creature near and dear to her… Then again, isn’t this exactly how it is? Everyone goes through this stage in their life, though not everyone is capable of bidding it farewell with dignity: «My youth! Go to someone else!» 

The numerous one-second intervals and the minor scale harmony both serve to accentuate the imminence of one’s parting with their youth.

Стихотворение Марины Цветаевой «Молодость» состоит из двух частей, которые были написаны с промежутком в несколько дней. Наша «Молодость» — это вторая часть стихотворения, которая начинается словами «Скоро уж из ласточек — в колдуньи…». 

Что такое молодость? Где та грань, которая определяет начало старости? Можно ли узнать, в какой момент ты оказался за чертой молодости и начал свой путь в сторону старости? Есть определенные маркеры, которыми Марина Цветаева наделяет молодость: «шалая моя», «раззор моей души», «смуглая моя», «золотце мое». Все это подкрепляется отсылками к малиновому цвету, что так же символизирует страсть, порыв, импульсивность, свойственные молодым. Удивительно, как Цветаева нежно обращается к «молодости», как к родному существу, как к чему-то очень родному… А ведь так оно и есть. Каждый проходит через этот жизненный этап, но не каждый готов достойно попрощаться. «Молодость моя, уйди к другим!» 

Обилие секундных интервалов и минорность гармонии подчеркивают неотвратимость ухода молодости.

Attic Windows / Чердачные окна 

The song is based on the poem ”From The Attic Windows…” by Anna Yashunskaya, a poet and singer -songwriter from Saint Petersburg. 
The arrangement was inspired by the cover of Norah Jones’ «Don't Know Why» done by a fellow Russian band Non Cadenza. The key part in their melody was carried by the bass guitar, whereas in our “Windows” it’s the double bass which gives the song a macabre tone. Together with the carefully reserved drumming, the cryptic “dagobar” effect and biblical motives of Anna Yashunskaya’s verse, it creates an image of the gloomy “sin city”, suffocating with loneliness, despair and weakness. 

Песня написана на стихи питерского поэта и барда Анны Яшунской «От чердачных окон…». 
Вдохновением для аранжировки послужил кавер группы «Non Cadenza» на песню Норы Джонс «Don't Know Why». Там ведущая роль в музыке отдана бас-гитаре, в наших «Окнах» — контрабасу, который создает мрачное звучание. Вместе с осторожными барабанами, таинственным эффектом «dagobar» и библейскими мотивами текста Анны Яшунской вырисовывается сумрачный и мистический образ «города грехов», города-леса, тёмного, как заброшенная церковь, задыхающегося в одиночестве, отчаянии и бессилии. Максимальный надрыв скрыт в последних словах, где выражено желание, которому не суждено сбыться: «Мне бы выстрелить в трубы, / Сломать тишину, / Отыскать то окно, / Где мне верят и ждут, / Распахнуть настежь двери / И ветра глотнуть, / Как лампады, Чердачные окна задуть...»

Ночь / The Night

Night is a curious thing. For some of us it’s time to enjoy dreams, for some it’s time to suffer from insomnia. For some it’s just the time to start doing something productive, for some it’s the end of a working day. Time spent under the cover of night always has in it a note of secrecy. To many of us nights never last long enough. For Marina Tsvetaeva, though, night was the time to have a conversation with herself, the time of spiritual pursuits and reflections. It is no accident that her poem “The Night” ("In my giant city it is night…») was included into the cycle of poems titled “Insomnia”. 
As if it was a shard of glass, a line from another of Tsvetaeva’s poems - «The whole sea needs all heavens…» pierces the lyrics. That poem consists of only two lines, and this one is the first of them. The second line slips away from one’s consciousness like a dream that disappears by the morning…

Ночь обладает интересным свойством. Для кого-то это время сновидений, а для кого-то это время бессонницы. Для кого-то это время начала деятельности, для кого-то конец трудового дня. Время под покровом ночи всегда несет в себе некую сокровенность. Ночь для многих из нас быстро проходящее время. Для Цветаевой же ночь была временем разговоров самой с собой, временем душевных исканий и раздумий. Неслучайно стихотворение «Ночь» (»В огромном городе моём — ночь…») входит в цикл стихов «Бессонница». 
Как осколок другого сновидения в текст вклинивается фраза из ещё одного стихотворения Цветаевой, «Целому морю нужно всё небо…». Стихотворение состоит всего из двух строк. Это — первая. Вторая строка уплывает из сознания, как сон, который исчезает к утру...
