A Midwinter Day's Waddle is a piece in 2 movements, originally written for wind trio as a part of TL BMus 1 Orchestration Course under Deirdre Gribbin.

This piece is about nothing "deeper" but a bunch of penguins in Antarctica. Although one could speculate that it reflects either the composer's response to the environmental crisis or personal connection to nature (which the composer is missing because of living in the city).

A Midwinter Day's Waddle (2021)

Cooking has been one of my biggest inspiration lately. That is why I decided to make a narrated cooking recording. To give it a bit of spice though, I decided to make it about something other than food. The recording was done as one continuous field recording, about an hour long and then cut into the final version.

THE TEXT:

Creating an unfulfilled dream is no simple feat. As every recipe, we first must begin with our ingredients, which are really quite common.
To start you need your most enduring and beautiful dream, all your effort and will, pieces of self-confidence, and a fresh bundle of hope. The bundle of hope tends to be the hardest to get, as it’s quite small and expensive.
Start by slicing up your dream, as finely and thinly is possible. Some tears might come out; don’t mind them, that’s really quite normal, it’s just the reactions of chemicals. Don’t mind it. Once you’re done, it should be in tiny bits and pieces.
Your effort and will can be sliced a bit more haphazardly—it’s the sliced up dream that matters here—but you still want quite small chunks so you can cook down all your effort and will.

Finally, you take your bundle of hope. This tends to be the hardest part, for some reason. You simply peel the skin off the hope, to reveal the beautiful light insides. You then slice it thinly, then dice it. You want the pieces to be very small after you’re done.
You can start adding in spices. And oh, those are the usual: the what-ifs; the maybes; the ridiculing words of acquaintances; the could-have-beens; the it’s-for-the-bests. 
Careful! Don’t add too much! That could make the unfulfilled dream more painfully spicy and burning than it should.
Now, that wasn’t so hard. But you aren’t done yet.
Take out some self-confidence. Usually, it doesn’t require much to cook. Just put it in a pot of boiling water while you make the rest of the dream.
Cook all the ingredients in a pot for about 10 minutes.
Oh, I told you to be careful with the spices! 
Don’t leave just yet! I still see some raw dream left!
Let it all simmer for 20 minutes. When you are done, it should all be cooked down; and you shouldn’t see any of the dream, the hope, the will and effort left. The self-confidence should also be done; from rigid and strong to soft and pliable.
Take out your plates, put the self-confidence in; put the sauce in; and garnish with blocks of dreary 9-to-5s and a small sprig of regret.

Based on a recording of me and my great-grandma singing a Slovak folk song "Po nábreží, koník beží".

Foreign Echoes (2022)

COMPOSER'S NOTE:
Foreign Echoes is a piece about assimilations into the new and disintegrations from the old. 
Finding the sense of self-belonging while realising that we do not physically belong anywhere anymore. 
When people migrate, they try to fit into the new world. When life circumstances change, we try to accommodate them. To feel ourselves again.
Sometimes it is possible to come back - to the old place we used to call home. Often when we come there, we find out that even when it resembles our memories, it is nothing like them. It is just a foreign echo of what used to be.

Finding The New 'Normal' (2020)

My first official piece as part of TL studies.

COMPOSER'S NOTE:
This piece is about a relatable moment of awkwardness or embarrassment, where we have an accidental faux pa or social blunder. It attracts everyone's attention onto ourselves, and we end up going over that moment in our heads for hours, days and sometimes even weeks. Although, often the truth is
that no one even noticed, or did not pay so much attention to it, and end up not even remembering it. It is only our own emotional brain overthinking.
