After a remix for Dadub on Stroboscopic’s Preternity release, Rrose checks in with a full solo release through Monad XVI. This is a record half machine, half beast, at times empathetic but continuously emphatic.
Opener ‘Onceless’ is a nine-minute coalescence of the aural narrative of Apocalypse Now. Running throughout is an incessant buzzing, more helicopter and plane than the label’s favourite bees. From this mechanical source emerges an eerie tribal drumming, slowly bringing the dissonance to a chilling conclusion.
‘The Stare’ begins as optimistically as ‘Onceless’ seemed pessimistic: a beautiful bass drum induces a whirring repeat. This repeat, however, begins to suffocate, absorbing the drum in a slide towards more mechanical disorientation. Paranoid hi-hat and insistent low ends are then introduced to close.
‘Kneeling’ is an amalgam of hi-end loops, the master sampler for a 1980s ‘computer sound’ film stock. The tone is brought back from the electronic precipice by a more verdant perspective in the middle minutes, but this cannot prevent the electronic whirring from passing into final track ‘Wet Silk Will’.
‘WSW’ has a greater jut than its predecessors, breathing and striding in a human form. Yet while it pursues this more human resolve, it certainly retains the EP’s signature pursuit of determined, electronic force.

 Con Death Whistle, Víctor García traslada el aura potente y cinemática de sus obras al escenario y a la pista a través de paisajes sonoros, ruidismo y punzantes melodías que envuelven a la espectadora en una experiencia desarmante, inmersiva, subterránea, prófuga irresoluble entre lo onírico y lo terrenal. Sus impactantes directos le han ganado una y otra vez el favor de una audiencia rendida.

Bartosz Dziadosz (PLEQ) jest kompozytorem, producentem muzycznym, a także kuratorem. Reprezentuje eksperymentalny nurt w muzyce elektronicznej. W swoich kompozycjach łączy gatunki takie jak drone, ambient, abstrakcyjny glitch, modern classical i elektronikę.
W 2005 roku powołał do życia projekt PLEQ, z którym wydawał płyty w wytwórniach muzycznych w Tokio, Francji, Canton czy Montrealu. Jego utwory znaleźć można na wielu kompilacjach charytatywnych u boku takich artystów jak Max Richter, Autechre, Nils Frahm, Future Sound Of London i innych. Oprócz Polski, koncertował również w Rosji, Anglii, Szwajcarii, Norwegii, Szwecji, Rumunii, Grecji, Litwie i Niemczech.
Od kilku lat, bardziej niż produkcją płyt, zajmuje się komponowaniem muzyki do spektakli teatralnych - na swoim koncie ma ich już ponad dwadzieścia (zarówno w Polsce, jak i za granicą). Współpracował m. in. z Narodowym Starym Teatrem im. H. Modrzejewskiej w Krakowie, Teatrem Narodowym w Warszawie, Residenz Theater w Monachium, Theater Basel w Bazylei, The Mladinsko Theater w Ljubljanie, czy Klaipėda Drama Theatre w Kłajpedzie.
Jego działalność obejmuje także projekty komercyjne dla dużych marek takich jak C&A, czy Mercedes Maybach, dla którego przygotował sound design na premierę nowego modelu Mercedesa, który miał swoją odsłonę w Szanghaju pod koniec 2021 roku.
Bartosz Dziadosz jest również autorem muzyki filmowej - stworzył ścieżkę dźwiękową do dokumentów "Do ostatniego drzewa” (w roli głównej Borys Szyc), opowiadającego o wycince drzew w Puszczy Białowieskiej, który zdobył aż 13 lwów w Cannes (3 złote, 3 srebrne i 7 brązowych) oraz filmu „Moksha”. Ponadto jest autorem muzyki i instalacji dźwiękowej do wystawy Agaty Grzybowskiej pt. „9 bram, z powrotem ani jednej”, która miała premierę 25 czerwca 2018 roku w Galerii Pauza podczas Miesiąca Fotografii w Krakowie.
Aktualnie pracuje nad muzyką do filmów dokumentalnych, spektakli teatralnych w Polsce i za granicą oraz tworzy kolejną instalację dźwiękową na premierę elektrycznego Mercedesa.

Minjoon was fascinated by the joining of his painting awareness and techno sound.    His theme consciousness is to find an ambiguous equilibrium point based on the extreme paradoxes of "Unfamiliar familiar" and "Autumn aesthetics". And it departs from pre-sound conversation. Ambiguous shapes and colors in images are not a visual sense, but appeal to another sense of energy.    
 Sound becomes another material with various colors in him. He likes to solve the story of music by the color and texture felt in the sound without entangled configuration of music. The sound that seems to be suppressed gives a feeling like falling into heavy water, but at a certain moment it is crying for the structural escape of the structure. Music is throwing a quiet question while finding a balance that never exists as another means of exploring his theme consciousness. 

  Minjoon 은 그의 회화적 작품의식과 테크노사운드의 접합점에 매료되었다. 그는 ‘친숙한 낯설음’, ‘추의 미학’의 이분법적 역설을 기반으로 모호한 균형점을 찾는 것이 그의 주제의식이다. 그리고 주제의식은 사운드 이전의 회화에서부터 출발한다. 이미지 속 모호한 형태와 색감은 시각적 감각이 아닌 또 다른 감각들에게 에너지를 호소한다.     
 사운드는 그에게 다양한 색감을 가진 또 다른 재료가 된다. 그는 음악의 구조와 형식에 얽메이지 않고 사운드에서 느껴지는 색과 질감으로 음악의 스토리를 풀어가는 것을 선호한다. 억눌려있는듯한 사운드는 무거운 물속에 빠져있는 느낌을 주지만 어느순간 발버둥치며 구조적 탈피를 외치고있다. 음악은 그의 주제의식을 탐구하는 수단으로 결코 존재하지 않을 것같은 균형을 찾아가며 조용한 물음을 던져온다.

Podcast #124 comes at you from Ukranian DJ and producer, Sqeef.

Sqeef’s unique blend of melancholic and spatial sounds had us fully captivated when we first discovered his music in early 2019 - his collaborative EP with Strom (UA) released that year, ‘Planetary Nebula’ (Northalsen Records) being a powerful, futuristic ride through interstellar space.

Sqeef’s hour-long mix for On the 5th Day rouses the exact same feeling - a cinematic-like experience thanks to the cosmic soundscapes and oscillating, organic percussions - each twist and turn taking you into a new corner of the cosmos.

Following many years as a classical pianist, Sqeef found himself drawn to the electronic music world - exploring the realms of ambient, experimental and the enticing rhythms and textures of deep, hypnotic techno. We're definitely grateful that his journey took him here!
