Sven Laux is a talented and faithful friend of the project and we're happy to present his first contribution to this series. The Berlin-based composer has been taking his micro production background steadily into deeper territory with releases on Dewtone Recordings and Archipel over the last year.

As a DJ, he's played at Studio-R in Berlin and been a frequent resident for 31337 label nights that have lead to performances home and abroad. His latest mix features music from Martin Nonstatic, Doyeq, Mikrokristal, Anders Ilar and Robag Wruhme.

Mikrokristal - Finale (Album) // Suffused Polarities [SPD007]

Mikrokristal gives us no more than a Christian name - Adomas. Shying away from any additional personal or geographic specificity - since he also hides his address - this musician has used a recent web-chat to admit a constant striving towards "beat-less soundscape paintings." Activity is more important than identity. His decent musical ideas comes togheter as a conceptual long player, with his nine tracker 'Finale' he flirts with lush 4/4 oriented and beatless electronica melted into jamaican dub traditions and linked to always changing bits and noises.
'Drowsy Forest' and 'Dub River' is responsible to draw an oceanic milieu, with splashing waves and lazy dub impact from the finest. 'Klumpes' sets a higher tempo with dark samples and sinister overall feel. 'Experimental Tree' and 'Oaze' both are proof of the professional usage of studio gears with maximalist implementation, with sudden changes and tweeting FX samples. 'Once Upon on a Cloud', 'Pasvaites' and 'Vaivorykshte' is capable to invite us on the dancefloor, with fast, rigid beats rolling on dreamy landscapes. As an outro track 'Leidziasi Saule' switch back to the experimental world, breaking the beats as a maniac put the icing on the cake, closing the concept with a general subtle resting point.

DJ set from the Om Tree Saturday night, July 31 2010. After lowercase microsound, modern classic, free folk and otherwise fine and subtly organic selections I played at the previous event, I suddenly felt the urge to change gears and play something completely different - which came to me from above in a form of old-skool IDM/Artificial Intelligence from the 90s and its modern reincarnation (recent microfunk reminds me of late 90s post-ambient-dnb IDM)... Intermingled by hyped up hypnagogic stuff and topped by the fruits of the triumphant return of Autechre. So, something not really typical for me - synthetic textures and pulses - almost psy-ambient sometimes - well, I like to be surprised by selection that just happens by itself :)
