Feat.Fem: Wie bist du zum Auflegen gekommen?
Ayumi: Sehr lange Zeit hatte ich nur einen Plattenspieler zuhause rumstehen und dazu ein paar sehr alte Platten, aus einer „Zu verschenken Box“. Im Sommer 2017 war ich für zwei Monate im Ausland, wo ich in einer WG wohnte, welche zweit Plattenspieler + Mixer beherbergte. Ich fand es super beeindruckend, wie meine Mitbewohner mit diesem „alten“ Medium Platte richtig gut aufgelegt haben. Zuhause habe ich mir dann nach und nach Equipment und mehr Platten gekauft. Allerdings wollte ich nie so richtig offiziell auflegen, sondern eher nur für mich selber daheim. Dann habe ich sehr viele
nette Leute kennengelernt, die sich auch für elektronische Musik interessiert haben. Davon viele, welche auf einer sehr professionellen Ebene agiert und mich dahingehend immer weiter gepushed haben. Ohne diese Menschen wäre ich wahrscheinlich heute nicht hier. An dieser Stelle auch noch einmal einen herzlichen Dank an @illousion für die Einladung.

Feat.Fem: Wie gehst du vor, wenn du neue Musik suchst?
Ayumi: Meistens nutze ich die Zugfahrt von Dresden nach Leipzig oder umgekehrt, um mich durch Discogs oder den Bandcamp Music Feed zu klicken. Durch das „Youtube Prinzip“ so nenne ich den Suchvorgang, indem man in immer tiefere Sphären eintaucht und sich dabei oft ziemlich stark vom eigentlichen Suchbegriff entfernt, eröffnen sich manchmal auch ganz neue Blickwinkel und man ist nicht so festgefahren.

Feat.Fem: Wenn du ein anderes Genre auflegen würdest, welches wäre das?
Ayumi: Darüber habe ich mir noch nie Gedanken gemacht, kann mir aber auch nicht wirklich vorstellen, mich großartig vom Techno wegzubewegen, weil ich mich damit am meisten identifiziere. Aktuell finde ich dronigen, hypnotisch - sphärischen aber auch schnelleren, minimalistischen Techno gut. Das wird sich aber bestimmt auch verändern. Für mich ist Auflegen ein dynamischer Prozess.

Feat.Fem: Wie bist du zu deinem DJ-Namen gekommen?
Ayumi: Meinen DJ-Namen habe ich tatsächlich einfach von meinem immer noch bestehenden Instagram Account Namen übernommen, weil ich die Ästhetik schön fand. Tatsächlich kommt der Begriff ayumi aus dem Japanischen und bedeutet Schritte, wird aber auch als Vorname verwendet.

Feat.Fem: Erzähl von deinem allerersten DJ-Gig.
Ayumi: Das war im Sommer `19 beim Crossover Festival in Grimma auf dem Gelände der alten Spitzenfabrik zusammen mit meinem guten Freund Simon. Das Areal ist auch Homebase vom Dorf der Jugend, ein emanzipatorisches Jugendarbeitsprojekt was sich für eine starke Zivilgesellschaft im ländlichen Raum einsetzt. Vor dem Gig waren wir natürlich super aufgeregt und haben uns auch kurz gestritten, warum weiß ich gar nicht mehr genau. Letztendlich lief dann doch alles glatt über die Bühne und wir bekamen viel positives Feedback.

Feat.Fem: Welcher Track aus dem Podcast ist dein liebster und warum?
Ayumi: Ich finde jeden einzelnen Track auf seine eigene Art und Weise richtig stark. Fünf Tracks sind von befreundeten Artists aus Leipzig, welche einfach unglaublich talentiert sind und die ich immer gerne supporte.

Feat.Fem: Was war der erste Tonträger, den du gekauft hast?
Ayumi: Discogs sagt Raär - Le Pendu. Meine allererste selbst gekaufte CD war das Album von Gwen Stefani – Hollaback Girl im Jahr 2004 :D

Feat.Fem Podcast 33 - Ayumi

For our 6th episode, we welcome no one else but Jack Fresia https://soundcloud.com/jackfresia, one of Amsterdams finest.

A surprising yet familiar composition of techno and psychedelic sounds that will take you back to the forest where Jack's inspiration sparkled. An excellent DJ & producer, originally from Italy but based in Amsterdam, he also runs his own label Modular Synth Music, where he aims to showcase not only his own productions, but also from artists and producers pushing the boundaries of fast pace, rolling techno.

No doubt this is a special one, since we've been seeing his progress from very close during the pandemic and had the pleasure to invite him to play with us back in summer for Heavy on the Seasoning. We couldn't be happier to host him for this set, a good friend of the collective, a dancer matching any beat and a very dedicated music lover.

Almost three years after his first contribution to Affûté, Surt is back and delivers an EP with more of his signature mesmerizing melodies.

‘Eleven’ is a pure, flawless techno weapon, while ‘Phoebe’ and ‘One’ are sublime emotional ballads full of uplifting harmonies. Both Téo Dréan and Kangding Ray managed to revisit 'One' in their own way.

The last slot of our February roster is brought to you courtesy of this Cologne-based team-up; they strayed away from their usual repertoire for an atmospheric and bouncy progressive house mix dipped in acid. The two recently discovered this love together, showcasing it in several b2b’s already, and are thrilled to give us a taste of their medicine

Måtyrer, with his roots in techno, runs a true institution of techno nights in Cologne with Brutalism inviting household names such as Sataoc Mass, DJ Pete, Voiski & Nene H while also branching out to venues like Tresor.West. 
Philo proves you don't need decades of experience to understand and push the boundaries of a genre. With national and international recognition, her originally vinyl-exclusive selection has evolved over time into a digital hybrid in the pursuit of the best possible sound. Being a regular on UK lineups, characteristics of her eclectic selection naturally involve rough UK bass, which is somewhere between breakbeat, 4 to the floor, dubby bass bin jungle, and footwork, with a splash of classic 90s as well as progressive house according to the maxim "keep moving forward“! 
Not long ago she started producing and released some of her work on Headlight Records, Nice & Deadly, nonesuch, Stereo45, Defrostatica, and Miura Records- with more on the way.
In 2021, together with Marie Montexier, Aino DJ, and No:elia, she founded the event series Précey, which focuses on female and non-binary artists to push the scene in Cologne and in general.  She also hosts her monthly radio show on jungletrain.net inviting artists like Denham Audio, Coco Bryce, Rassan, Amy Dabbs & plenty of others, so be sure to check that out but of course not before you caught the undeniable vibes on DUSK255.
