The partial government shutdown may be over, but its effects are still lingering for many national parks.

While the parks, for the most part, stayed open during the 35 day shutdown, it forced nearly all federal park staffers to stay home. And with minimal staffing, that left many of these areas vulnerable to misuse.

Joshua Tree National Park is especially sensitive to human activity, as evidenced by numerous reports of vandalism that occurred during the shutdown.
