Ron Albrecht stands behind the decks of the most iconic clubs on the planet. His sets are deep, uncompromising, and emotionally charged – a captivating fusion of contemporary techno structures and the raw, honest roots of electronic music. With an exceptional sense for dramaturgy, he reads the energy of the dancefloor and guides his audience on an intense, almost meditative journey.

But his story goes much further back – deep into the early days of German techno culture. In the 1990s, Albrecht was more than just a DJ; he was a cultural pioneer. In 1994, he founded Gerberei in Schwerin, a club that quickly became one of the most important venues for electronic music in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. For nearly two decades, he shaped the club as co-founder, organizer, and resident DJ – providing a stage for both national and international artists, far from the major cities. At the same time, from 1995 to 2006, he ran the legendary record store Easy Traxx, which became a hub and source of inspiration for many DJs and music lovers. It wasn’t just a place to buy records – it was a space where attitude and taste were curated, rooted in a deep understanding of vinyl culture and sonic aesthetics.

In a personal interview with Andre Kronert, Ron Albrecht talks about his first encounters with electronic music, the magnetic pull of Berlin’s early club scene, and the pivotal moments that shaped his path. His stories offer insight into a constantly evolving scene – and into the mind of an artist who continues to approach it with integrity, depth, and passion.

To mark the upcoming release "Several Streams of Thought" - Steve Bicknell's new album, due out on May 9th on double vinyl, with a limited edition including a 7-inch, KR3 joins forces with the British producer to deliver a mix that shares the album's title, capturing its spirit and essence.

This journey chronicles Bicknell's decades-long exploration of electronic music, reflecting his deep roots as a collector, DJ, and producer. Drawing from a wide palette of tones and inspirations, it offers a raw and honest snapshot of his constantly evolving sonic identity.

Over the course of 75 minutes, the mix shifts from bright atmospheres to textures of pure power, ultimately entering a dark, low-ceilinged tunnel before reappearing in blinding white, taking a deep breath, and continuing. 

It’s an intricate processing of various dimensions, featuring exclusive unreleased tracks from the 2x12" and 7" editions of the album.

Here at AIR, we kicked off festival season in with Sonar Lisboa, the little sister to the famed Barcelona festival, which took place in early April this year and featured acts like Max Cooper, Jennifer Cardini, Juliana Huxtable, and this month’s esteemed guest, @MarcelDettmann.

A techno veteran whose name is synonymous with big room sound, Marcel recently debuted a new live set, his first ever foray into live performance, the result of a pandemic spent toiling away in the studio and crafting his landmark album Fear of Programming, which formed the foundation for his live act. At Sonar Lisboa, he presented a new version of his project, which he calls My Own Shadow, a mix of his own productions, field recordings, vocal elements, and on the fly craftsmanship.

Marcel and I sat down together in Lisbon to discuss his new live set and the creativity behind it, and how his musical and personal life is shifting over years. A big thanks to the team at Sonar Lisboa for the invite to this year’s edition!

For our series Refracted contributes a mix true to his signature style, crystalline and patiently layered with unwavering intent, drawing across decades and genres to invite us into a divine state of mind. A few months after our successful Saüle debut, here we go again for a second round of genre-busting, boundary-pushing sonic exploration. Embracing the Idea of techno as a means of transcending our condition, both as conscious and subconscious beings, this series offers a platform for artists to express themselves with enhanced scope and purpose. For this second installment which will take place on 5 June, RYC invites a trio of musicians who’ve been pushing the envelope of techno and electronics to a broader extent. A name synonymous with bold dynamics and cutting-edge approach, London-based producer Jin Synth will take us on a mind-bending ride down her intricate rhythmic algebra and layers of hypnotic, otherworldly sonics. A jack-of-all-trades whose hybrid, unhindered vision for music has driven to all ends of the techno spectrum, the one and only DJ Pete will join us for a hectic parade of breaks-laden, bass-heavy weapons and dubbed-out tangents. Chief explorer of lushly textured folds and immersive cinematic arcs, dub techno maestro Magna Pia will take over the decks for one of those moments on the dance floor when functional innovation fuses with multi-sensory exaltation.
