Over 15 years ago, Canadian producer Afternoons In Stereo, aka Greg Vickers, self-released his debut album Aural Pleasure, a music project steeped in downtempo and house approached from a somewhat jazzier perspective. In good company at the time with artists like Glenn Underground, De Phazz, and The Karminsky Experience, the album announced a bold and brave new artist to the electronic music scene who would come to influence a whole new generation of beatmakers. 

"I had evolved from a drummer and a percussionist to learning how to use these new digital tools to make music," says the artist. "Enabling my computer as a musical instrument was a new and daunting prospect and I am mostly self-taught. Developing a songwriting and compositional skill-set that encompassed my aspirations for instrumental music production also really brought all of my musical vocabulary to the fore." 

Drawing from a deep affection for club music and an enthusiasm for the (then) new subgenre known as downtempo or chillout, Vickers set out to bring a somewhat organic approach to the music that drew from jazz, rare groove, and ambient but with an analog sensibility. "That initial album was me throwing everything into the mix -- a bit of jazz (Esquema da Sophia), a little bossa (On The Way To Luciaâ€™s), some drum 'n bass (Architexture). I was very influenced by the music coming out of the ESL and Good Looking labels as well as the sort of living-room house aesthetic of the era from labels like OM, Hed Kandy, and Naked Music." As a drummer it would surprise no one that Afternoons In Stereo was heavy on beats and rhythms, but what was perhaps more astonishing was the level of musical exploration that was present, from french pop to balearic underground to dub. With a steady underpinning of instrumental experimentation using traditional brass, upright bass, flutes, guitar, and keyboards, the record did nothing if not set the bar high -- as a debut album, and for subsequent Afternoons In Stereo records to come. 

Long out of print and unavailable, Kraak Records is proud to release Aural Pleasure as the first of three re-releases of the first three albums in the Afternoons In Stereo catalog. Featuring two previously unreleased tracks from the original sessions, Driving At Night and Lambretta Rossa, fans will find much to enjoy here. "I am quite excited that these songs are seeing release after so long in the vaults," says Vickers. "They really do take me back to where I was at musically at the time and provide fans a new shade of early Afternoons In Stereo to enjoy!"

They say the second album is the hardest for any artist, but this proved untrue for Canadian producer Afternoons In Stereo. With a myriad of musical ideas and new concepts to explore, the sophomore slump was hardly a worry. Starting with an album title that pays tribute to poet Walt Whitman and infers that jazz is a driving component, the record would push the envelope and defy expectations. 

Leaves Of Brass came two years after the debut, Aural Pleasure, but it is easy to hear the music was already pushing into new sonic territory. "The biggest departure was, I think, away from club music," says producer Greg Vickers, the man behind Afternoons In Stereo. "I was determined to not rely on the repetition of loops and 4/4 beats and to find a way to express myself instrumentally in a way that wasn't repeating what I had done." In fact, there is only one song on the album that employs the dancefloor-friendly house sound that was more prevalent on the debut album -- the dreamy Ibiza club anthem of Andalusia. Across the rest of the album its fat cinematic spaghetti western funk (Django's Revenge) and urban blaxploitation funk (The Puma), glacial ambient (Tidal Passage) and vintage spy thriller beats (Chasing The Lotus). 

Still working independently, both producing and releasing music from his home, the album definitely signifies a shift towards an increasingly cinematic sound. "My work was much more percussive, coming from my background as a drummer and conga player, and I really put a lot of time and attention into that area of the record. The album is also denser, I think, more layered and textured â€¦ there is a complexity in composition that is a step forward. I I hope it shows I was slowly growing as an artist!" 

Leaves Of Brass also marks the first time that the producer brought in an outside musician as well. Previously, everything was programmed and played by Vickers himself but one relaxed session with guitarist Oliver Schraa was to prove very fruitful both for the album and for future sessions. "Oliver is an old friend, we were in our first band together when we were 13 years old and learned to play at the same time," says Greg. "We also have a lot of overlap in music taste, especially when it comes to jazz -- we're both big Grant Green and Django Reinhardt fans!" Schraa proved to be as adventurous as Vickers, and would lay down much of the beautiful guitar work that runs through much of the album, especially on the jazzy and ethereal song The Great Aerial Ocean, a song that continues to be a signature Afternoons In Stereo track emblematic of his hallmark sound. Recording live musicians would become a staple process on subsequent releases to come. 

Long out of print and unavailable, Kraak Records is proud to release Leaves Of Brass as the second of three re-releases of the first three albums in the Afternoons In Stereo catalog. Featuring two previously unreleased tracks from the original sessions, Abstrakt Jazz and Work My Mind, fans will be pleased. "These are tracks I left off strictly because of time -- I didn't want the album to exceed an hour. I think they are very much in keeping with the flow of the record, and will definitely offer fans of Leaves Of Brass something new to add to the proceedings."

ActRaiser is proud to bring you his second release on Kraak Records. Started in 2023, the Epilogue EP was intended as a follow up to his debut release, 2021's Short Stories LP. Several tracks were completed, but the project was put on hold. In 2025, with a new found enthusiasm, Rob re-opened the projects, finalising the best tracks, and creating a brand new one (Desert Road Trip), to complete the EP. 

As with Short Stories, Epilogue is a journey into dusty Trip-Hop and downtempo music, inspired by the sounds of UK downtempo music in the late 1990s and early 2000s - this time with more emphasis on emotive guitars and ethereal vocals. 

Created to evoke images of late night campfires with friends, road trips across open country, and beach sunsets, ActRaiser hopes that Epilogue will soundtrack your own adventures.

Hailing from Bristol, Rob 'ActRaiser' Sayles is probably best known to most for his liquid D&B output, but his work has covered a range of styles over the years, from breaks to dubstep, and this new EP for Timewarp sub-label Kraak finds him in out-and-out downtempo/ambient territory. The five tracks that make up the 'Epilogue' EP all come from the mellow and contemplative side of the street, ranging from the epic, hypnotic 'Desert Road Trip' to the meandering 'Time Apart', and together they add up to 24 minutes of warm, soothing but nevertheless highly engaging listening.

We are excited to present you the debut LP album from mCurtis. Yomi takes us into a mysterious shadow land, a result of an experimentation journey that was born a couple of years ago. mCurtis joined forces with other artists to expand Yomi's musical landscape.

The influences coming from a deep thought and a variety of music genres, from jazz and blues to electronic beats and synths blended with a deep trip hop and downtempo style. In this album the artist had to express his sincere appreciation and gratitude to all the artists that collaborated in this project, taking his music to a place beyond.

Yomi was written, produced and arranged by Manos 'mCurtis' Kourtikakis. Recorded between 2016 and 2018 at various locations. Mixed in Groove Studio.

mCurtis a.k.a Emanouil Kourtikakis returns with his brand new and second full length album "Faro". After his debut album "Yomi" two years ago and followed by "Yomi Remixed" last year, we are excited to present you his new album "Faro". 

With eight new and fresh tracks "Faro" moves over downtempo, trip hop and beat making electronica blended in a multi-genre concept combining organic instruments and spaced out cosmic vibes. Beats, synthesizers, double bass, piano keys, trumpet and saxophones are the fundamental elements of this album. The entire package visualises different aspects, feelings and concerns of the past year. 

Last month the single "Spark" was taken and released from this album featuring California / USA based MC Rapper Lost Poet providing his cool hip hop vocals, while on the saxophone is featured Lunar Moods (Nikos Chalkias) to showcase the album. Serbian based singer Nina De Lianin contributes on the opening track with her wonderful vocal and lyrics on "Draw a new Picture" while she also contributed on "I Agua" telling a story with the words and story written by mCurtis. Drums on "Defiled Panacea" by Serafeim Stroumpis.

With a wonderful third EP Voodoo Child returns back, one year after his last release to blow our speakers with another house release. Four tracks are featured on this package and all of them are strictly under house genre with the title 'Freedom'.

UK based artist, ActRaiser, debuts on Kraak Records with Short Stories, a ten track album of trip-hop and downtempo music. ActRaiser has been releasing liquid drum & bass and deep dubstep (among other genres) for over a decade and, after a short break, returns here with both a brand new style and a computer-free hardware setup. 

Half-way through 2020, due to the challenges faced by the COVID-19 outbreak, ActRaiser (a.k.a. Rob Sayles) felt it was the perfect time to create something different - something relaxing, uplifting and hypnotic to accompany the slower pace of life and uncertainty we now all found ourselves facing. So, equipped with his brand new Synthstrom Deluge hardware and inspired by the trip-hop music he listened to as a teenager in the 1990s, he set to work. Short Stories is the resulting fruits of his labours. The influences of trip-hop (both classic and modern) are clear, but it also draws ideas from other styles such as hip-hop, downtempo, broken beat, and jungle, with ActRaiser's unique style that fans of his liquid drum & bass will no doubt recognise. 

Rob tells us that the album was not only a way of learning how to use the Deluge, but also a way of focusing his mind and lifting his spirits during the lockdown. He set out to create something that sounded organic; something that would evoke images of late night campfires, walks in forests and on beaches, cosy nights indoors listening to dusty old vinyl records, and appreciating the world around us - especially during these strange times - and he hopes it will have a positive effect on anyone who listens.
