The Essential Mix is a weekly radio show on BBC Radio 1 currently broadcast between 0:00 - 2:00 AM UK time on Saturday morning. Originally broadcast on 30 October 1993, the Essential Mix features contemporary DJs and music producers of electronic dance music. The show has been presented since its inception by Pete Tong and features an uninterrupted two-hour mix from a different artist each week, overlaid with occasional continuity announcements delivered by Tong. With a broadcast run in excess of 25 years, the Essential Mix is one of the longest-running programmes in the current BBC Radio 1 schedule, and is one of very few Radio 1 shows which is not broadcast live.

Dee takes us on a journey full of those special Cafe Mambo vibes, easing us into the sunset hour with a laid back selection of classic chill out tunes, before cranking up the pace into pre-party mode after a glorious bright sun finally sank beneath the horizon. 
The mix features Dee's very own edit of Robert Miles - Children, which was played just as the sun set, receiving a huge standing innovation and applause from the Mambo terrace, a poignant moment just days after the sad news of Robert's passing.
Further into the mix Dee takes things more electronic and a little deeper, including his latest track 'Halcyon' which has already proved to be one of the biggest tunes of Summer 2017 in Ibiza.

At Cascadia I joined forces with the Rebel Disco Alliance players for their 6th annual Sunday afternoon gathering at the River Stage. Following dj ShmeeJay’s classic disco set, this is the story I crafted amidst the moss-covered forest and sweet, playful river vibes on the last day of the festival. Gene Lee, Wesley Holmes, Jon Lee & Erin O'Connor rounded out the day with their stellar performances. A deep bow of gratitude to our beloved dancefloor family for riding the rhythm with us til the end... Bless!
