Italian DJ and producer Marco Dassi is releasing his debut full-length album, First, Quake Me on Hell Yeah Recordings in september 2013.

Having always experimented with a range of sounds and styles from hypnotic techno to melodic bass throughout his career, it is no surprise that this album marks another evolution for Dassi.

A world away from the minimal techno and tight tech loops of his early releases, it’s a more personal and intimate affair that is layered up with plenty of genuine musicality.

Far from a collection of banging bangers, First, Quake Me is a mature record that works on your head as much, if not more than, your heel.

Across the 13 tracks the album peaks and troughs through blissful soundscapes, dancefloor focused grooves and moody ambient pieces as well as some disco nuggets and deep electronic delights. As such it’s a real listening experience from start to finish; and album that takes you somewhere away from here as well as providing plenty of propulsive moments for the club.

Be A Light opens the album with a heavy kick drum and plenty of wiry, sinewy synth sounds that grow in stature and ease you into Dassi’s world. From there Les Petites Choses’ mines a laidback disco groove that is infused with plenty of musicality and frazzled hooks.

Elsewhere the likes of Fleeting Glances suspends you in outer space as sci fi sonics drift by, swells of intergalactic energy build up and dissipate and huge, thudding kicks propel you along. Swedish Love; will no doubt be a standout single for many with its purposeful disco swagger and shiny, reflective analogue textures.

Reloved proves Dassi does vocals as well as instrumentals as he infuses his melodically rich arrangements with muffled male motifs, whilst Acid Purple Weed is a deep house cum acid track that proves this Italian does infectious groove as well as cinematic ambiance.

Closing on the downbeat, depraved sounding technoid slump of Confabulous, First, Quake Me is an album of true invention and originality. It stiches together a wide array of influences into a hugely absorbing tapestry of textural delights.

Homebreakin Records proudly serve up a hot new single from Vancouver-based DJ and producer Neighbour, featuring the vocals of Piper Davis, and bolstered by a selection of top remixes from 6th Borough Project, Cyclist, Tad Wily and Enno Karr.
Homebreakin Records and Punchout label co-boss Neighbour is known for his disco, deep house and analog flavours and is a prolific talent who really knows how to nail a groove. Here he enlists the local vocal services of Pampa star Piper Davis.
Their single ‘Light Breaker’ is a slo motion disco-house chugger with steppy, arpeggiated synths driving it along. The louche drums are as lazy as the rippling melodies that light up the track, and oodles of sensuousness comes from the dreamy, icy vocals of Piper Davis. It’s a starry, expansive feeling track that will send hands in the air and as well as making you dance will have you singing along in no time.
First to remix - and he does so twice - is famed disco dons 6th Borough Project aka Craig Smith & Graeme Clark (The Revenge) who have worked together in the studio for almost a decade and very much define the output of labels like Instruments Of Rapture, Domino Records and Delusions Of Grandeur. Their first remix is a squelchy, go slow bit of organic funk with grinding drums and swathes of lovely reverb. Their second, which features as a digital exclusive, is a slightly flabbier, more melodic version littered with little keys and percussive effects that makes it all the more magical.
Next comes Mark Penner aka Cyclist, who has remixed and collaborated with some of modern disco’s greatest names. His version is full on cosmic, with celestial explosions of melody and big, slow, fat synth lines all dancing above churning, purposefully deep and groovy drums.
Then Polish born, London based producer Tad Wily (Matt Kuderski) steps up following fine work on Gomma and Retrofit. His version is a darker, more insular affair that does clever things with the original vocal and packages it into more of a post punk, new wave groove with twanging guitars and rooted drums at the heart.
Lastly, South African born artist Enno Karr is a musician, composer and DJ residing in Calgary. His remix was the winner in a recent competition carried out by the label in association with Ableton Beat Camp and features here as anotehr digital exclusive in the package. Karr’s version is the most blissed up and chilled out, with soothing vocal intonations, cute melody stabs and a breezy pop-dance vibe that really strikes at your most sensitive emotions.
This is a fulsome packaged stuff with all sorts of disco bombs that cannot fail to find their way into your affections.

There has been a musical changing of the guard in Vienna the last years. Over due too some would say. Out with old crusty chilled downtempo and elevator music and most definitely in with new exciting and innovative electronica, be it Hip Hop or House or Techno. Much of this has been because of the new breed of club and party people who have taken risks and brought over from overseas very cool underrated and forward thinking producers and DJ’s to play at their parties. This has influenced a new generation of likeminded musical factions and cliques in Vienna who are now producing passionate and quality beats too. One such label is Luv Shack Records and apart from organising some of the cities best parties, they now see fit to express themselves through the medium of vinyl and digital downloads with a roster of local talent.

LeSale opens things up on the EP with “Make me feel so good”. Strong Disco overtones that hark back to the days of the Garage and the Loft. Disco in its purest and most sensible form was always just about a groove, and this has a groove. Minimal piano and vocal loops take nothing away from this gorgeous groove either.
Burnin Tears continue the Nu-Disco theme with “Confessions”. A punchy almost reggae trance with the big claps and a massive gospel shout out that really do light up this energy laden track. Vienna is definitely in the house though with some tight echo and reverb filling the holes.
On the flip, we get more sophisticated and deeper with Jakobin &amp; Domino, two very exciting producers that have had some nice sounds recently on Easy Moods out of Graz. These guys always add plenty of atmosphere to their music and “Night Glow” just oozes the savoir-faire with some soft acid and a little late night Detroit.
Last but not least, Lee Stevens &amp; The Beautiful People drop one of those mid tempo monsters that never feel out of place these days. Dropping the odd cowbell and with short and thick basslines that really do stick, this ends up being a really tight channel and groove.
