I'm aiming for a bit of Tangerine Dream, Neu!, Amon Düül 2 and Kraftwerk brought into the 2020's. Not my usual style, but something I've been intending to record for a while. The Jupiter X's 'AI' arpeggiator is here and there, it's tricky to use, but not bad once you get the hang of triggering it to jump between different modes.

A single take with 6 synths on the go. Then edited to removed the bits where I messed up, and mixed with a few effects in Ableton Live 10.

OK, rookie mistake: I left the gain up on the vocoder mic on the Jupiter! So you can hear every dramatic key bang. Tried to remove with EQ, but only halt successful.

Ninja Rats

Composed and mixed in Ableton Live, synths are the Modular and Mini in Arturia Analog Lab V and Dexed's DX7 (sorry, real one gathering dust...). Mastered with Cloud's matering template.

Forensic Entomoogology

Mainly synthetic analogue synths through Arturia's Analog Labs. I managed to crash it by trying to combine a CS-80 with an ARP 2600. Apparently this was too awesome to exist... for a while. Got it working after several hours rebuilding damaged Ableton files :) And added a Fairlight CMI for good measure, so I could create a virtual instance of the God of Synths. The bass melody is a DX7.

Fly Traps

I'm trying to make slower, more meditative music. Getting there... but can't resist a good arp.
Instruments: Pads Jupiter X & later Sequential Take 5. Arpeggio Take 5 & later DX7 plus a grotty bell in Ableton. Prologue on the lead and FX from Roland VR-09. Drums are DX7 and Ableton.

Zen no monkeys here

Back in the day I had a Hammond M102a with a Leslie 145 speaker. Unfortunately I had to give it away - too expensive and risky to ship, and took a lot of (my parents') space. I can also fit 8 synths in the same space and play without shaking the building... not sure which are the pros and cons there ;)
So this is a simple mix of Hammond and synths - all in Arturia Analog Lab 5 - Motorik style, with the inevitable Stranger Things reference (it was only a matter of time...).

Imagine a trail of robotic ants dancing under the light of a synthwave sunset. Some of them brought bongos, and the neon trail goes on for ever, and ever, and ever...

Most of the synths are Arturia Analog Labs softsynth reproductions of classic synthesizers, others (mainly the leads) are DX7 patches in Dexed (too lazy to run them out to the synth). Drums are Ableton. Various effects here and there.

A bit of fun resulting from SCIENCE! 
The ant recordings were provided by Prof. Jonatan Klaminder at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. The synth is the small but mighty Modal SKULPT synth SE. The little bit of orchestral fear is made with Spitfire's BBC Symphony Orchestra plug-in. A couple of 'vocal' samples to round it off.

Testing out my new Roland S-1. Amazing little synth! Sequence programmed into the S-1, then two stereo tracks recorded through Ableton. Only using the S-1's internal effects. Inspired by a trip to Vienna.

Seven-spot ladybird eating aphids on a rose bush

A tune influenced by the Fibonacci series - all beats, timings glitches are (sort of) part of the sequence... OK, a bit of artistic license here and there... but mostly 1,1,2,3,5,8,13 etc.
The timing on the drums is fun with different drums starting at different bits of the sequence. Perhaps a little inaccessible at the start, but gets synced later on.

The Fibonacci Sequence

Started with a couple of arps, a monotonous OP-Xa bass, Linn Drum VST and a single bar melody on a Jupiter-8 VST. Sort of developed into a Safety Dance tribute!

Bumblebees Without Hats

Traveling on the Kyoto subway for the first time after arrival from Sweden. Tired, hungry, hot and confused. There was no food on the Hello Kitty train.

Inspired by various recorded sounds from the Kyoto subway (with a short guest appearance from an airport robot), tuned and with some (slightly off the beat) koto and analog bass for company. The 'Darth Vader' breathing is the subway train's breaks. Sounds processed in Audacity then composed and mixed in Ableton.

This is the first of a series of tracks inspired by a trip to Kyoto for the ICE2024 conference.

That warm, fuzzy feeling you get when you are inside watching the mega-rain hitting a ground surface that is far too hot to exist, but knowing you can retreat into an enclosure of air-conditioned blissful escapism... and maybe running out for a beer.

Perhaps geological, perhaps emotional. Inspired by an interesting drive up and then down Mount Hiei, with a few emergency photo stops on the way down.

Lake Biwa Mountain Drift

A deer scared by tourists and a goat with a bag over its head heads to the hills, and finds sanctuary at the temple. Although I've lost all my pictures from Nara, so this one is from Sweden!
Galloping rhythm and bass with some esoteric arps, heavy pads, building up into a light, yet heavy, melody and crescendo.
Made in Ableton with Arturia Analog Lab and the classic synth sounds of Katsuhiro Chiba. There is a little bit of Ennio Morricone in there too. The final bell gong is the Shoro of Enryakuji Buddhist temple on Mount Hiei, near Kyoto, Japan.

Inspired by the view across the sea. I intended to make this on the beach, but wind, sand and laptops are not compatible species. So made in the hotel and poolside mobile studio :)

Synths are Arturia Analog Labs, except the drums, recorded and produced in Ableton.

Storms Rising Over North Africa

In interesting subway station which allows one to transfer to the Funk You Line... or at least it does in my ears ;)
A short and groovy track to celebrate the change of trains, from one of sedate overheated feverish confusion, to one of assertive, bass driven coolness.
Mainly Arturia Analog V soft-synths in this, with my favourite Ableton drumkit, Disco Arcade.

The Funk You Line

A little relaxed jazzish improv for bass and 60's electric piano. Played and recorded on a Roland VR-09 with bass routed through an enslaved DX7 below it. Calling it "jazz" allows me to hold the fact that I have trouble with timing ;)

On our path to a dystopian future of an AI controlled civilization, a simple request for food may be problematic than it seems. Feed the Synth and it learns how to manipulate you to get food, deny it food and it is forced learn more subversive measures to ensure its continued survival...

A dog with no name

Kraftkabel is the artist name of Philip I. Buckland. I am a musical scientist in a parallel universe living in a studio flat orbiting Jupiter. My keyboards are suspended in gravity nets, and my mixer is controlled by the power of the mind. My cosmic sequencing software masters through the power of emotion, and my keyboards are simultaneously both retro and new.
My music originates from the point of divergence of these universes - the mid-late 1980's, but is spliced by genre splicing interludes. I use a time machine and dimensional portal to get to work.
