Welcome to the 2nd outing of a fortnightly RF Radio mix from Glasgow's Riverside Festival. While we count down the months until we are back down by the Clyde, we will be dropping a mix every 2 weeks so follow this page. This week we are proud to present IDA. Hailing from Helsinki & now based in Berlin after a few years gracing Glasgow. IDA’s style is influenced by 80s Chicago, with plenty of acid-themed beats and 303 basslines. She’s played often at our Maximum Pressure nights as well as being a frequent guest at The Riverside Festival. Her Acid Flash parties quickly became an exciting fixture on Scotland’s club circuit, with a new residency in Glasgow’s Sub Club starting just before the lockdown.

She recently launched her own label: Sävy, with releases which neatly weave together an intriguing blend of old and new. Like her DJ style - Traversing the spectrum of techno, electro, breaks, acid house and other unique sounds.

#RFRadio - 002 - IDA

Ryan James Ford

  During the 1990s while growing up in western Canada, Ryan James Ford was introduced to electronic music through the local rave and club scene. He began to discover, study, and collect the music he heard at these parties which consisted of a mix of Jungle, UK hardcore, Techno, House, IDM, and ambient.

  Fast forward many years later when he moved to Berlin, where Ryan and his productions found a solid home on the legendary Clone Records. His productions on Nina Kraviz’s TRIP, Anetha’s Mama Told Ya, Ellen Allien’s We Are Not Alone, Ida’s SÄVY, Marcel Dettmann’s MDR, Tale of Us’s Afterlife, Answer Code Request’s ACR, Dream Ticket, and his own label SHUT followed steadily after.   

This man's sets and productions are rich with inspiration from his time spent living in Calgary where he had interests not only in electronic music but also in hip hop, post-rock, reggae, jazz, experimental, and even some interest in metal. He began experimenting with production in the early 2000s but it wasn’t until 2013, with a move to Berlin, that he started investigating his musical capabilities seriously.  

Even though two decades have passed since Ryan’s introduction to electronic music, his love for early Warp, Metalheads, Metroplex, Novamute, Skam, Downwards, etc. can still be heard resoundingly clear in the strength and versatility of his productions and sets. The future will see Ford continue to play out and release on labels that share his like-minded affiliation and roots in the electronic music community.

The 84th installment of our podcast series is curated by the multi-talented and multi-facetted Amsterdam based Djane Afra. She began avidly buying and playing records at the tender age of 16, infatuated with the classic sound of the 2000's; The Hacker, Miss Kittin, DJ Hell and his International Deejay Gigolo Records were all part of her musical upbringing. She soon found herself behind the decks, playing the records she loved to crowds at clubs and festivals around Amsterdam. When the pressures of Djing and club politics started to weigh her down, she decided to take a short break, focusing on another passion of hers; jewelry. Afra has now returned with a vengeance, becoming a resident at Spielraum Amsterdam as well as hosting her own bi-monthly party series at Melkweg called Illuminator (yes, that is a reference to UR). Enjoy this mix of detroit electro and techno records, a sample of what one can expect when seeing Afra light up the dancefloor.

Kraft und Licht is an Amsterdam based open air / club event organization that specializes in high quality day & night events. What separates Kraft und Licht from other raves is that they use their own soundsystem, build a small festival stage and add their own light show. The line up mostly contains young and upcoming DJs and producers from the Amsterdam underground rave scene. 
Kraft und Licht always aims to keep the music diverse during their events. Expect to hear a variety of genres, going from techno/electro to dub, jungle and breakbeat.
Kraft und Lichts new imprint, "Kraft Records", aims to be a springboard/platform for upcoming producers in and around Amsterdam.
