So, how do you set about preparing a mix for an imaginary wedding?

Clichéd though it may sound, each wedding I’ve ever played at has been so unique. I’ve done indie weddings, funk/soul/disco weddings, hip-hop/R&B/urban weddings, punk/rocker weddings …. in short, all kinds of different niche weddings.

I bring thousands of tracks with me to each party, so to put the spotlight on just a fraction of those required some serious editing decisions. In mid-summer 2017, I made a shortlist of 200 tracks and decided to see if I could string them together on the fly, in a mix, in one take.

The plan was to aim for a 3 hour mix and I almost got there, but I had a bit of a wobble at 2 hrs 40 mins, when I managed to convince myself that the recording level might be too low! Which is my excuse for fluffing up the final mix, from T2 into Future Islands and calling things to a halt right there. But - a thousand phews! - it turned out that the sound levels were OK & I present to you these 54 tracks (instead of 60).

PS I was unaware of the R Kelly allegations at the time of the mix, otherwise I would not have included 'Ignition (Remix)'.

PPS Thanks to Billy McGaley for remastering this. The levels were initially too low, but it sounds perfect now.

Cian's Shotgun Wedding

"It’s a rare thing to find a reformed band that are better than the original” VIVE LE ROCK MAGAZINE 2011. 30 years after first gracing the charts with IS VIC THERE? GOING LEFT RIGHT and I WANT…DEPARTMENT S have been rampaging across the UK and Europe thrilling audiences with their guitar based sound from Wickerman in Scotland to Benicassim in Spain. With 4 original members, Mike Herbage, Stuart Mizon, Mark Taylor and Eddie Roxy joined by Back To Zero’s Sam Burnett giving the group a unique sound with two lead guitarists. Since 2006 three singles have been released, Wonderful Day, God Squad Saviour and My Coo Ca Choo with guest musicians such as Glenn Matlock, Marco Perroni, Mark Bedford and John Keeble. A new LP released last year “MR NUTLEY’S STRANGE DELUSSIONARIUM” was greeting by warm reviews and represents the more rock sound the band believe would have immerged had VIC producers(Buffin and Overend from Mott The Hoople) been allowed to produce the debut LP…….sadly the label wanted a more commercial sound and then went bust after the record was finished but before it was released thus the first Department S album was released 10 years after it was made!!!  2013 will see a new LP “The Constructavist’s Nightmare” and the band back on the road playing clubs and festivals.
