Krake Festival introduces: Milan Hermess

Recorded live at Krake Festival 2020, up next for the KrakeCast series is @milanhermess, who is part of Mechatronica- a Berlin-based record label, promoter and collective. Originally from the Netherlands, where Milan hosted techno parties in his hometown of Arnhem, he has been residing in Berlin since 2011. Heavily influenced by the West Coast Sound of Holland and Berlin’s nightlife culture, his mixes touch upon all genres within alternative dance music. Milan Hermess brings an intense fusion of acid & electro,, new wave & techno, obscure disco & italo; always playing that shit that makes you dance!

Michel Amato's contribution to electronic music can barely be overstated. As The Hacker, and under different aliases, he has inspired generations of dance music fans and artists. Since his first release in 1996, Amato had a Techno phase, dipped into EBM, sci-fi tinged Electro and New Wave, but is perhaps most famous as a founding father of Electroclash.

We are have been delighted by an exceptional DJ performance of the maestro at our 2023 edition of Krake Festival and we are glad to be allowed to share the recording of the show with you.

We are happy to share a special recording from our last Krake Festival. Olivia and Chino from Krakow, who make up the powerful duo Radiation 30376, performed on the main room sound system at ://about blank and the crowd was enthralled from the first to the last moment. Today we are sharing another recording from a top-notch DJ performance at this year’s Krake Festival. The bass heavy night on the Lobby room has been opened by no other than ISABASSI, one of the city’s most versatile selectors when it comes to glitched out breaks and bass from space!

We are releasing a line of recordings from our last festival edition, starting with this recording of Jerome Hill. 
Jerome Hill has been related to Killekill and Krake Festival for quite some time now, so it was high time to finally record one of his sets. For Krake Festival 2024 he took over an empty floor and turned it into a sweaty pit with humidity dripping from the ceiling. We are proud to present such a belter of a set to you. Enjoy!

Bio:
As the popularity of dance music soars, and the contemporary environment becomes saturated with DJs, the roots of the artform can become somewhat lost. In Jerome Hill, we have an artist who represents DJing in its most vivid, creative and versatile form.

Owner of a seemingly endless library of music Jerome began DJing in 1990, honing his craft on London’s illegal warehouse party scene of the mid nineties and today juggling a hectic gig schedule where he strives to find, as FACT magazine described it “precisely how much funk is possible for raw and uncompromising electronics to have” utilising a deep love of the music and his infamous ‘hands on’ scratching and mixing skills that have made him a crowd favourite all over the world.

The sheer momentum and creativity of Jerome’s sets coupled with his timing in dropping unexpected gems in a context created on the fly never fails to throw up impromptu moments that are symbolic of the true rave spirit

Sole proprietor of the labels Don’t (est. 2000), Super Rhythm Trax, Bleeper, Fat Hop and Hornsey Hardcore, Jerome also runs the fiercely underground Don’t club night in London, now entering it’s 7th year as well as presenting a long running weekly radio show ‘The Roots Of Rave’ on London’s Kool FM.

In Jerome there is an unquenchable enthusiasm that ignites an endless supply of possibilities; with no one sequence sounding the same, and an infinite love for dance music that shows no signs of diminishing. It’s ‘proper’ DJing in its no-mucking-about nature. An explosion of energy that is capable of lighting up any dancefloor in the world.

ELENA SIZOVA is a belarusian artist based in Poland with 15 years experience in electronic music. Lecturer during the day at technical university in the past, she prorogates her classes in slightly different rooms during the weekends: her taste for experimental and acid gives spaces to telluric experiences on the dancefloor with well-crafted sound while weaving together old and new, rare and obscure, electro and techno.
Solo productions but also coproductions as a part of Der Zyklus and Daughter Produkt projects, co-host of monthly RADIO RITUEL show, SAMEHEADS Berlin resident with a party serie “Outsounder”.

Wisdom Tits is the Berlin-based project by Caillou, French-German DJ, curator and one half of MILK ME, alongside Paty Vapor, Brazilian DJ, curator, part of Wrong Era, Slow Motion Records, and resident at the Berlin based club Sameheads. Together they run their party series focused on highlighting Minimal Synth, Synthpunk, Post Punk and No Wave female & queer acts.

Their research is focused on dark electronics and old-school sounds with an avant-garde touch. A blend of unique drums, powerful basslines, synthetic melodies and immersive vocals, connecting the past with the future. Shifting constantly between low and high BPM, they infect the dance floor with their selection.

Her distinctive performances, overflowing with inventive sound design experiments, have become a defining feature of her influence within the dynamic musical environments.

Born beyond the Arctic Circle ANNA Z´s first visual experiences emerged from an environment whose images were marked by the northern lights, the snow, the dark and dense forests and the animals within. Very early she started taking several art curses, while she enjoyed an education that was specialized on mathematics and physics. She gained a deeper insight into the world of sound, frequencies and music in the most intimate way by learning several instruments with a focus on guitar.

After her graphic design studies, during which she focused more on her artistic skills and learned to work with several programs from editing software to complex 3d modeling and programming, she worked as a designer and illustrator for several years. 

Anna moved to Berlin in 2012 and started studying architecture at the University of Arts Berlin (Universität der Künste Berlin). She soon got into contact with the Berlin electronic music culture, especially with the modular synth scene and started designing and manufacturing some of her own musical gear. 2015 ANNA Z started to work with the visual guidance of the WERK crew. She soon became a part of the operating crew and record label (with J.Manuel). Her graphics became the face of WERK and the project, and now it would be inconceivable without her work.

Her art comes from the most different experiments, including, programming, hardware, drawing, photographies, oil and acrylic painting, all this with the music in mind. Besides experimenting with the following programs: quartz composer, max, processing, grasshopper, adobe programs, ableton live. She started making music on her own. Working with Reaktor and Cycling 74, she is creating her own instruments.

ANNA Z is a member of SPANDAU20 family, a Berlin based record Label.

Since 2021 ANNA Z has her own radio show KOMI on Radio80k,a non-commercial community radio in Germany. Komi believe in the spirit of the forest and nature, is free and independent like a nordic wind.
KOMI is open for each art of electronic and contemporary music, each guest is free to bring the authentic for the mix.

Sabine Hoffmann is often to be found behind the decks of legendary Tresor Club Berlin and works at the well known OYE record shop in Berlin where she can explore her love for vinyl on a daily basis.
Sabine is the founder of “Frauengedeck”, an event series focusing on an all female line up.

Shaleen is a resident DJ of the "We Are Not Alone" events hosted by Ellen Allien and also of Tresor Berlin, a mutual playground for both DJs.

Krake Festival introduces French Electro / Acid legend: Umwelt

Hail­ing from Lyon fruit­ful rave scene of the 90’s, Umwelt never let out of his way by the gleam­ing neon lights of the compromise.
Trac­ing its way under the Techno Rave and Elec­tro patron­age of Drex­ciya, and armed with its analogs machines for friends only, the French was care­ful enough not to kill the fire of the first men. Umwelt con­tin­ues indeed the work of pio­neers, namely pro­duc­ing a fash­ion wild trans­porta­tion, direct, able to take the lis­tener into the under­ground worlds as well as the infi­nite space.Owner of two labels (New Flesh and Rave Or Die), author of three albums and twenty EP’s on infa­mous labels such like Ship­wrec, Satamile, Dri­ve­com or Kom­mando 6, the pro­ducer never took a rest and has always fol­lowed his instinc­tive pre­scrip­tion: to cre­ate again and again, not by desire but by need. Umwelt is rare, his music is unique.

Krake Festival introduces Kamikaze Space Programme

KAMIKAZE SPACE PROGRAMME is a true sonic rene­gade, a gen­uine music experimenter.
Some­where between a clas­sic Musique Concrète and mod­ern elec­tronic approach, KSP’s music is made up of myr­iad sam­ples and found sounds from real world sit­u­a­tions, it lends the stuff a very real tex­ture and aes­thetic that links it to the here and now, the every­day, in a very real way. The sound of an old truck, the hiss of a ket­tle or the clunk­ing of a door are all fair game for KSP, who then takes his strange sound sources and weaves them into infec­tious sonic tapes­tries and intri­cate rhythms.!

With a recent EP released on Paula Temple’s ‘Noise Manifesto' last year, a string of international festival and club appearances, and a frenetic expression of militant techno individuality, Akua Grant sets herself as one of the most unrelenting and innovative artists working in Berlin today.

Whether it’s taking from her esteemed production time under the alias Lady Blacktronika or experience growing up in California, her self-assured approach to gripping and brawling techno tension sees them perform a fast paced and fervent flow on the dance floor.

Femanyst continues to bring her unapologetically bold signature sound with their new techno imprint “Dark Carousel” as an extension to their much revered DJ sets of twisted and aggressive, 90s influenced high octane electronic music.

LUZ1E's shady sister has been pushing that Ghettotech sound for a while but won’t get tired of exploring and pushing the limits. Her first release has been out via rising underground platform Warning in April. Some of the last remaining copies gonna be available at the Krake Label Market at Urban Spree this year.

He has been a participant and behind the scenes influence for many now famous artists, spread over a wide cross section of contemporary musical genres. We are honored to present a unique selection of tracks by the scene expert ahead of his performance at Krake Festival on 26th July. You also will get the chance to dig through wild West-Berlin’s archives of the ‘80s during the screening of ‘B- Movie’, which is followed by a Q&A with the main protagonist himself.

KRAKE is an annual Berlin based fes­ti­val for chal­leng­ing elec­tronic music. Krake means octo­pus and the fes­ti­val is organ­ised in a com­pa­ra­ble way: reach­ing out to selected loca­tions dur­ing one week pre­sent­ing the best in elec­tronic music, what­ever style it is.

The fes­ti­val is not huge, not expen­sive, does not have big spon­sor­ing deals or four dif­fer­ent colour area passes. It’s just a good and so far suc­cess­ful try to bring back the focus on artists who dare to step off the beaten tracks.
