"SESTRO" is a compilation of electronic music from the Odesa-based label система | system, designed to bring together musicians from Ukraine who have been released on our label and performed at events we have organized. For many years we strive to cover a wide, diverse, and adventurous spectrum of Ukrainian music. The goal of the compilation is to directly financially support (ГО Сфера) Sphere (@womenspheresolidarity) which is a Kharkiv-based organization that actively helps women and LGBT+ people from eastern Ukraine in territories that are heavily affected by war. NGO Sphere (ГО Сфера) supplies crisis kits for women in frontline areas and also provides financial assistance to vulnerable groups of women, organizes legal and medical consultations, provides psychological assistance, informational campaigns, and activist events.

"We have never had an experience of working with women in conditions of stress, shock, and grief like today. Now we are trying to gather our experience and the experience of our colleagues from other countries to help deal with the terrible consequences of the survivors" - Anna Sharygina, a representative of NGO Sphere (ГО Сфера).

We believe that giving visibility to Ukrainian culture is an important part of our struggle, because Russia's war against Ukraine is imperialistic in nature, and for three centuries the works of Ukrainian authors have been denied and destroyed.
We will never agree to be dominated. We want, as artists, to give all possible support through our work to the brave volunteers now active in Ukraine, who are heroically fighting to save the most vulnerable.

Протягом багатьох років ми прагнемо висвітлювати широкий та різноманітний спектр української музики. Мета компіляції — надати пряму матеріальну підтримку організації Сфера (@womenspheresolidarity) з Харкова, що наразі активно допомагає жінкам та ЛГБТ+ людям зі Сходу України на територіях, які сильно страждають від війни. ГО Сфера постачає кризові комплекти для жінок у прифронтових районах, а також надає фінансову допомогу вразливим групам жінок, організовує юридичні та медичні консультацій, надає психологічну допомогу, проводить інформаційні кампанії, активістські заходи.

Ми вважаємо, що надання видимості українській культури є важливою частиною нашої боротьби, адже війна Росії проти України, має імперіалістичний характер і протягом трьох століть твори українських авторів_ок піддавали цензурі та знищували. Ми боремося проти Росії, що прагне нас колонізувати, ми боремося за нашу свободу, ми ніколи не погодимося, щоб над нами панували. Ми хочемо, як художниці_ки, своєю роботою надати всю можливу підтримку хоробрим волонтеркам, які діють зараз в Україні та відважно боряться за порятунок найуразливіших груп населення.

Game creator David OReilly has built an interactive world for you to explore at your choosing. Whether you decide to take the role of a microbe inside a plant in the desert, or a star in the furthermost galaxy, each layer of the game is coated with ambience which takes the simulation even further into the limitless boundaries of each world. Composers Ben Lukas Boysen and Sebastian Plano have shaped this experience with their intricate 4-hour soundscape, alongside the continuous narration by philosopher Alan Watts. 

Though the score has an important part to play in heightening the atmosphere of the game, it has the capability of being a standalone album – carefully sequenced down to a 10-track selection by label founder Robert Raths. There is a considerably therapeutic quality about it, allowing the audience to transcend into a meditative state, which is what makes it a perfect partner for Everything. The music is a whole world of its own, yet part of the game’s universe.

We discussed many approaches, from really mathematical and direct, to abstract and philosophical, and we ended up with a mixture of both. Every element depends and builds on another and connects to previous and following songs. "Working on the soundtrack has been a truly inspiring collaboration. What fascinates me about the game is the self-exploratory approach it allows the player to experience; there is no purpose other than just being. This concept gave us wonderful freedom in searching for sounds and ideas that would fit the game. Throughout the score there is a subtle level of drama which gives depth to the game, yet the music never becomes predominant taking the player away from the main experience of being anything. Adriaan de Roover, who is also known as Oaktree (check out a few of his excellent mixes for Headphone Commute), announces a new EP, titled Voor anderen, with which he joins a Belgian imprint, Dauw. The label has been on the forefront of delicate ambient music, working with graphic artist Femke Strijbol "to create a unique hand-made piece of art that flatters both the ear and the eye." With this new release, they welcome Maarten De Naeyer as a new in-house graphic designer to continue the visual identity while opening up the door to new artists. I continue to be happy with their choice of album covers, which "engage interactions between different art disciplines." The work of Adriaan nicely slots among the label's catalogue, with its soft blurry hues of minimalism, micro-drone and environmental sound. On the EP, elegantly combined organic textures blend with their electronic parallels, sweeping the wide-ranging frequency spectrum across glitters and bass. The selection features commissioned pieces between 2015-2018 "merging feelings of distance and proximity into melancholic sonic entities."
