DJ 50 Spänn 2020, part 2

Delights label is wrapping up the year 2022 with yet another two-sided treat from the restless minds of Shay Landa and Markey Funk.

The concept behind Voxatone is very simple: exploring the sound qualities of vintage instruments with "vox" in their name. The first result is an otherworldly meeting between the 1950s Univox keyboard, the 60s Vox Continental organ and the 80s Soviet Polivoks synthesizer. Recorded at Mazkeka Studios, Jerusalem, with Elia Yakin on drums (the only "non-vox" instrument involved), Shay and Markey are joined by Estonia's man of many hats, Misha Panfilov, on Vox Phantom bass for two groovy psych cuts: the mid-tempo mind-bender "Figure I.108" and the upbeat floor-stormer "Figure III.122" - on the flip.

A Lie You May Have Heard

Time seemed to move at a snails pace, but he couldn't tear his eyes away from the clock. Today was different from the others: nobody had called, there were no messages in his inbox, barely a soul in the office. Maybe he'd missed something, a memo or a calendar invite... or maybe he should see it as a blessing in disguise; an opportunity to spend time with his imagination and forget that work even existed..

For their third release, Brussel imprint Undo Seat Belts welcome the Parisian chartered accountant by day, and music maker by night, Frédérique Sueur. 

Le Temps Mutile Les Talons is the name of this blissful and offbeat collection of nine tracks that finds itself lingering in the spaces between new wave, experimental, synth-pop, minimal synth and ambient. Its lo-fi bedroom quality and DIY touch imbues it with a feeling that's both comforting and disconcerting: a must listen.

This is a hazy tune based upon heavy jazz chord progressions composed while dealing with depression, but then bloomed out on the other side with dreamy noises and odd rhythmic textures. The whole song is a product of the spiritual chains of 9 to 5 office life, and the antidepressant solution as a societal trend.
