3 QUESTIONS to KRINK:

Q: You´ve been playing in lots of countrys yet. What was the most special moment/place for you?

A: Coming to a new place is always special to me. Though it gets more exciting the further you are from home. It still amazes me that people care for something you initially did alone, more or less for yourself and that you can come to a different city, country or even continent and there are people who know what you do and appreciate it, thats great!

Q: Describe your live-setup: How do you play your sets?

A: My live-set up is changing constantly, I usually have my Laptop with stems and loops from my productions, a drum machine and a delay with me. Sometimes I might take a synth or a keyboard with me.

Q: What´s coming next musicially?

A: There are a couple of remixes coming out in the next few weeks and I am currently working on new original material, since I have been quite busy with remixing lately, it´s good to concentrate on that a bit more now.

More than ten years in the biz and still young of age is Krink, our latest addition to the Upon.You Records family. Known for his unique, versatile production style the Berlin-based producer has built up a back catalogue with releases and remixes on labels like Hold Your Ground, URSL and Form Resonance amongst others over the past decade, has travelled the world as a DJ, awing audiences whenever he's on the decks – or performing live.

With the opening title track „It Goes On“ we see Krink providing a deep, spatial and spaced out late night banger both informed by MinimalHouse and DubTechno, later crossing over into dark'ish Techno territories before beautiful, panoramic string arrangements transfer crowds into uplifting, overwhelmingly emotional (Neo)Trance-infused realms. This is a masterpiece in terms of electronic storytelling.

Following up is „Organ“, a tune amalgamating more widescreen athmospheres and the traditional craft of raw, unprocessed German MinimalHouse graced by a deep low-end pump, percussive main motif and clean, hyperfuturistic filter abuse for lovers of a style once defined as Intelligent Techno somewhen in the 90s.

Furthermore „Dawn“ presents a slightly darker, more muscular studio approach to Krink's work, aiming at heaving, fever'ish Techno floors in hypnotrance with detailed percussion elements and finally providing ultimate relief through a warm, friendly, all embracing combination of organic vintage bass and dreamy, masterly crafted melodic arrangements.

Finally „Nano“ brings forth a solid, bass-heavy TechHouse foundation for a start only to introduce the most tender piano pads throughout the first breakdown, building things up harking back to the clean sci-fi filters of „Organ“ whilst intricate, interweaving melodies provide a floating, hovering vehicle for punters  souls to drift off into a timeless nirvana of electronic pulses and pure sound.

Sometimes it’s our second name that becomes the one for which we’re known. This is true for Philipp Krink, whose surname and moniker as an electronic artist has seen him travelling the globe with his sets of clean, deep grooves and melancholy colours.

Unlike many DJ’s and producers who find inspiration from inside the clubs, it was the opposite for Krink, whose first entry into those clubs came from his music. This happened after his teenage years were spent experimenting with machines, leading him to stumble into a life of sharing those ideas in sound with others - something that continues to humble him no matter where he happens to be.

He moves with his music, letting it carry him to the next point. He uses these changing spaces around him to define the details of his sound - details which have clear purpose within the clean rhythms and unfolding moods he has come to champion. This is house music that’s neither tangled up or become lost along the way.

As a traveller, a mood maker and a thoughtful young producer, Krink is a modern example of what new voices have to say; and as he throws his music into the world, it’s clear that we’ll keep trying to catch it.

Mirror for the Sun is a 14-track cycle of tempos, moods, and hums exploring different facets of a softly solar energy. The compilation departs from the Souq’s signature sound, infusing it with a rotation of new elements. Niki Sadeki’s curation brings more of an uncanny Berlin-style voltage to the label’s earthy tradition, shaped by her own learned perception of deep house. The result is a cosmic and crunchy experimental blend, with mingling moments of downbeat drama and upbeat glow.
When seen through a mirror, the sun’s light only reflects fragments of a fuller picture. Mirror for the Sun echoes this sentiment. Each track contributes an angle to an overall picture of sentience and connection. The 19 featured artists include returners like Zuma Dionys and MoM, and newcomers like Madmotormiquel, Geju, Landhouse Krink and Niju.
We couldn’t think of a more suited selector than Vancouver based Niki Sadeki, whose vision has refracted across an impressive stream of radio shows, guest mixes, and podcasts over the years.
