ABSYNTHE MINDED is considered one of the most interesting Belgian rock bands. But describing them as such does not fully convey the artists' versatility and ambitions. Absynthe Minded started as a one-man band formed by Bert Ostyn, the vocalist and guitarist who was successively joined by other musicians. The line-up now includes a drummer, keyboard player and bassist. The band members experiment with various instruments, sounds and genres combining rock with elements of jazz and pop to achieve an offbeat and very melodic sound. They say that they are trying to find their own pathway as a band and to make their playing authentic. The group is very popular in their native Belgium, in the Netherlands and in France. For their latest album they collaborated with the producer Jean Lamoot (Noir Désir).

Skunk Anansie - Brazen (Weep) (Perfecto Remix)

When we played in Den Haag last week I met up afterwards with some friends, including Miranda who has followed The Waterboys since 1985. I always enjoy seeing Miranda and getting to hang out a little with her.  We were talking about a concert long ago at The Melkweg in Amsterdam when someone took our picture together, and we both remembered it as a great show. 

So specially for Miranda, here's the version of This Is The Sea from that night, played by the Still Burning band - James Hallawell (keyboards), Ian McNabb (bass), Gavin 'Fingers' Ralston (guitar) & Geoff Dugmore (drums).  I'm on lead guitar and vocals.

Duane Allman was one of the defining musicians of our era, rated second only to Jimi Hendrix in Rolling Stone's list of rock's 100 greatest guitarists. A founding member, with his brother Gregg, of the Allman Brothers Band, Duane was also active as a session musician, and as a member of the all-star Derek and the Dominos. This seven CD set, produced by Duane's daughter Galadrielle Allman and esteemed reissue producer Bill Levenson, shows the full breadth and depth of Duane's work, from early recordings (with Gregg) in bands such as The Escorts, Allman Joys and Hour Glass; to his studio work with Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, Boz Scaggs, Delaney & Bonnie, Ronnie Hawkins and many others; to a live jam session with the Grateful Dead. The set includes several unreleased performances, many classic Allman Brothers songs, and a collector's cache of rare singles and long out-of-print album tracks. Recorded live using an iPhone 5 with Garageband and a set of V-Moda Earbuds.  Sound quality is crap, but the songs are pretty.

A lot of chatty people in the crowd closer to the stage ruining the recording and the enjoyment of those around them.
