Ninnu Kori

A collaboration with the brilliantly talented @rvijaynarain, this is a mashup of a Marwari dialect thumri Senraan Ra Baairya (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9h7p4-15ZNU) and Kailash Kher's rendition of Kabir's Naiharwa. 

Both are love songs, but go deeper than just physical desire. The first one asks to be carried away by the sweet breeze while the second one uses the metaphor of a bride separated from her beloved to hint at the fallacy of duality (advaita, if you will)

'Pyaasi' is from Swarathma's debut album released on EMI Virgin India in Jan 2009. This version features the inimitable Shubha Mudgal, special guest on vocals. The song tells the story of a river, whose waters have been disputed for years. The song was featured in a music video by Global Water Challenge to highlight water woes that the world faces.

Here is Naiharva recorded in 2007 in a concert at the Alliance Francaise Chennai. It was Vedanth's Maati Kahe collection and he had invited different artists to collaborate in different songs. This was what I had sung.

I have played different styles of music from traditional carnatic to film-pop. However something that I've always leaned towards is to explore the idea of propping up our beautiful classical music against various genres like pop, rock, jazz etc. So here is a song from my outfit Karthick Iyer Live. We have played Thyagaraja's krithi Manavyala in the raga Nalinakanthi.
