This release has a unique backstory: it was inspired by an interaction on Jake Johnson and Gareth Reynolds' podcast, We’re Here to Help. Back in April, I called in for advice on asking out someone I met during the solar eclipse. After being turned down, I followed up with the podcast and mentioned I’m a songwriter. Jake Johnson then challenged me to write a song about the experience, promising to feature it on their show. The song plays at the end of the episode I am featured in (Episode 81) after all of its context is built in the actual podcast episode.

The song weaves together references to Michigan, Texas, Vampire Weekend, and the solar eclipse, creating an all-encompassing ode to both an insanely specific, serendipitous situation and the relatable feeling of rejection.
