Having released his highly anticipated ‘Zen’ EP earlier in 2020 on Hospital Records, Unglued continues his explosive ascension with a jaw-breaking four-track follow up: ‘Total XTC’. With roots cemented in jungle, breaks and hardcore, Unglued injects his signature bassline badness into each tearout track, topped with euphoric classic house samples in the title track ‘Total XTC’, to hair-raising vocals from Truthos Mufasa in ‘War Dance’ featuring Whiney.

Total XTC fires us through a prism of late 80s nostalgia with pitched-up soulful vocal samples from Charvoni’s feel-good classic house groover ‘Always There’. Dreamy pads and playful vintage notes set the scene. Soothingly sustained vocals swim over raw, metallic, jungle-infused drums that introduce the sub-destroying drop. A certified rave anthem that will have all the heads entranced.

‘War Dance’ raises adrenaline as Manchester-based Truthos Mufasa lays down slick and weighty bars that ricochet off skippy old skool-style drums right in the eye of the storm. Together, Unglued and Whiney conjure up bass-rumbling chaos as we’re pushed ‘right off the tracks’ with double-barrelled artillery in the heat of battle.

Charging in with twisted swagger, ‘Got 2 Have’ is a squelchy bass-ridden stepper that screams Unglued all over. While ‘Pigeon Funk’ swoops in and stares you down with electrically-charged squarks and funk-fuelled flare.

Introduced to jungle at an early age by his influential uncle Stoppy, Unglued demonstrates his ability to simultaneously stick and unpick these roots in his powerfully dynamic ‘Total XTC’ EP by fusing the old-skool style with his unique, forward-thinking flair.

Unglued’s rise since his anthemic ‘If We Ever’ remix, has brought in over a hundred intercontinental shows since 2019, and regular support from some of the biggest players in the game, including Andy C, Noisia and Randall. Unglued is no stranger to spins on national airwaves, with BBC Radio 1’s Annie Mac awarding him Hottest Record In The World for ‘Born In 94’, as well as regular support from Rene LaVice and Charlie Tee on Kiss Fresh. Degs’ latest release on Hospital Records sees a series of brand new interpretations of tracks from his debut album ‘Letters From Ndegwa’. Featuring six fresh remixes, adaptations and stripped back editions, ‘Versions From Ndegwa’ breathes a new lease of life into the original classics including renditions from Bladerunner, AC13, Winslow, T.R.A.C & Karina Ramage and Degs’ collaborative neo-soul project with his brother - Kikuyu Soul. 

Bladerunner offers his weighty interpretation of ‘Sleepless’ (feat. Pola & Bryson) to get things underway. No stranger to laying down a killer remix, ethereal arpeggios float above the original three-note melody which paves the way for a sinister bassline and rolling drums. Young gun AC13 steps up next with his take on ‘The Roots’ originally produced by jungle long-timer Missing. Rumbling reeses and the soothing harmonies of Degs’ vocals set the track up before splashy amens and a classic liquid-style wobble bass take the lead.

Slowing things right down, it’s a family affair on the Kikuyu Soul version of ‘Levitate Your Mind’ as Degs and his brother MURIUKI team up to deliver a downtempo edition of the drum & bass original produced by Unglued, a real moment from the album already surpassing 1 million streams worldwide. Silky smooth keys, solemn strings and a hip-hop style beat lay the foundations for Degs to continue to spread his message of love and positivity. 

‘Colour My Soul’ also gets the Kikuyu Soul treatment, as well as an official remix from US-based rising star Winslow. For those who have got their ear to the ground, it’s no secret that Winslow has been making serious moves. His version of ‘Colour My Soul (feat. Logistics)’ infuses airy atmospherics which complement the uplifting vocal melodies of Degs, with the UK meeting the USA on this stunner of a remix.

Following on from his Head Trip Sprayout project back in May, that encouraged MCs and vocalists from the drum & bass community and beyond to record themselves performing over Degs’ ‘Head Trip’ (feat. Phil:osophy), two entries came to fruition on an official release on Hospital Records. Legendary American MC T.R.A.C’s verse and the vocals of Karina Ramage see their sprayouts combined on this special version of the track!

Since signing with Hospital Records back in 2018, Degs’ meteoric rise up the ranks has seen him make serious waves. From curating guest mixes for the likes of Charlie Tee and Andi Durrant on Kiss Fresh to launching his very own Degscast series, it’s been nothing but success for Degs since previous hits such as ‘Poveglia’ and his ‘Mixtape Sprayout’, quickly establishing him as one of the most versatile singer/songwriter, MC, and vocalist in drum & bass.

Hospital Records’ Whiney is ready to cause disorder, serving up his second drum & bass serving of the three-part ‘Bubblers’ series: ‘Bubblers Part Two’. With expectations soaring after his sickening introductory release, ‘Part Two’ lives up to the promise as he continues to mould, develop and expand his slick signature sound. Deep, dark and bubbly, Whiney goes in hard with all four killer tracks on the EP. Watch out for the lyrical chaos from former Pendulum MC, Ben Verse, and regular soundsystem-shaker, Parly B, too.

Whiney plunges us into the ‘Deep End’ with track one. We’re surrounded by a mist of eerie ambience, then, as militant drums build, Ben Verse leads the way as his unflinching lyrical flow lights the way to Whiney’s bouncy bassline business. Descending low-end frequencies shatter the underground as we channel deeper until we’re briefly struck by an aurora of sacred strings before being spat back out into an earth-rattling dystopian world.. 

Next we’re ‘Caught Up’. Woozy air raid siren-like pads unsettle the soul before we’re forced to accept our fate: ‘Everybody ring the alarm!’. Whiney showcases his ability to detonate blood-curdling bassline patterns, destined to crumble ceilings in one crunch. 

‘Old Flame’ moves into lighter territories, conjuring up a hazy daydream that bubbles along with mind-bending swagger. Vocal snippets dart in and out of consciousness with soothing sub hits and spiralling wobbles. 

Whiney rolls out in style with ‘Roll Out’. With fire-starting lyrical flow from mic-controller Parly B, who’s featured on soundsystem-stoppers with the likes of Mungo’s HiFi and Gentleman’s Dub Club, it’s tearout jungle-rhythm has been especially cooked up with reggae-tinged guitar plucks over a tidal wave of screwface-inducing rumbles, squelches and snaps. 

With an impressive back catalogue, including two albums, ‘Talisman’ and ‘Waystone’ released on the recently closed Med School imprint, and now two game-changing solo releases on Hospital, there’s no denying that Whiney will keep pushing boundaries. This man’s heading for the top. ‘Bubblers Part Three’...let’s go!

Undoubtedly one of the most exciting acts to have emerged in drum & bass over the past decade, Voltage has joined forces with Hospital Records for the release of his long-awaited studio album ‘Balance Over Symmetry’ which marks the tenth year of his journey as a solo artist. No stranger to the Hospital family with an album, 2 EPs and a handful of singles under his belt as part of drum & bass powerhouse group Kings Of The Rollers, it’s now time to explore the solo sounds of Voltage which have slowly but surely carved him to be one of the most respected DJ & producers in the scene.

In his true rambunctious style, Voltage sets the swing with a wild card. ‘So Close’ is a sub-120BPM synthwave weapon which matches his retro-inspired fashion to his musical vibrations. The combination of catchy vocals, an 80s-esque bassline and an unforgettable topline melody sees the creation of something extremely different yet irresistible from Voltage. Reminiscent of the days of euphoric hardcore, ‘Keep On Dancing’ sets the vibe with uplifting piano chops and adrenalised vocals as crunchy snaps and rhythmic cymbals keep things moving beneath. An iconic duo to everyone who knows their drum & bass, Voltage and Evil B come together for ‘Odyssey’ which sees ambient soundscapes and earnest lyrics on a truly heartfelt piece of music.
