Deep within the hegemonic core cluster, the brutal and deadly form of the ship Helion cruised with deadly intent across the gravity well of Arkana, the seat of the ruling elite. In its wake, the unraveling, doomed form of the defence moon Scarecrow tumbled across the planetary shore, untethered from its anchor of aeons – core breached and leaking into the vast cold vacuum. The crew stared out over the destruction, the horror of permanent nothingness at such a scale penetrating deep; millions of warriors erased out of existence by the ship’s darkmatter device in a moment with the tearing of the moon. On the surface of Arkana below, the effects were already being felt, with tidal waves towering over urban habitations, and the planetary plates starting to heave and twist in reaction to the forever-changed physics. The planetscape was contorting to a new form, its body now free from the pull of its closest moon, mindless to the destruction wrought upon the tiny beings and colonies that lay upon its surface. As death itself swept across the circumference of the orb, they observed from the safety of their superweapon high above… the planetary destroyer Helion, decades in the making and the last hope to free themselves from the tyranny of their brutal overlords - the violent breaker of their peoples’ chains.
 
Following their biggest year yet – with more than 30 live events worldwide, 14 EPs and 2 LPs in their wake - EATBRAIN enter 2017 with a powerful statement in the form of evolved entity SYNERGY (formerly Segment & Concept Vision, whose Mammoth EP was one of 2016’s most successful releases). The HELION EP delivers a heavy payload with 5 tracks of brutally refined neuro destruction from the onset, with title track HELION weaving between heavy rattling distortion and precise break insertions that evolve into an aggressively syncopated 2 step attack. WARRIOR SOUND issues an ultimate call to arms laid down by Miss Trouble’s pointed vocal and a lean and heavy halfstep futurerave beat, whilst halftime slash drumstep hybrid SCARECROW delivers a powerful wave of insanity with its heavy onslaught. They had drifted through the depths of space for an eternity, a trio of titanic constructions forged upon the surface of a faraway planet. The vast expanse through which they floated was to be their final resting place, the only prison that could contain their colossal strength. Their towering forms were shaped in the image of the most feared predators of their homeworld, hulking chasis of metal with a visage of primal power. Though they appeared to sleep within the infinite blackness of space, an extensive network of sensors worked constantly within their cores, searching constantly for the signs of life that would allow their mechanical hosts to continue their prime directive. As they passed an yet another planetary system, their constant toil bore fruit, detecting life upon an otherwise barren orbital body. In an instant, the massive machines were revitalized by the signals that coursed within them. From their forms shone with a brilliant cyan hue, granting them the appearance of a falling star as they descended towards the surface below.

The automatons stood silently upon landing, monolithic in their stature which dwarfed that of the colony below. Panicked rumors spread quickly throughout the colony’s inhabitants as all attempted to guess what had brought the titans to this world. As these rumors spread, so too did a sound, one new to the surface of this world. Beginning as a diminutive hum, its strength steadily increased until it began to shake the foundations of the settlement and the will of those within before ceasing in a single instant, allowing just enough respite to consider its function. Then burst forth the full fury of the trio, as from their eyes shot forth photon rays which sliced through the colony on a razor’s edge, cleaving its buildings in twain. In the low gravity present upon the planetoid the rubble created by their conquest hung in the air, oddly still in contrast to the ensuing chaos. The titans lumbered forwards through this maze of destruction, accompanying their lethal lightshow with the weight of their booming steps in pursuit of the masses who fled beneath them. A frantic scramble had begun amongst the colonists, as each rushed without care for any other towards the nearest planetary shuttles, only to see them atomized in turn by the rays which swept through the city. The titans let none escape their gaze as they pursued their programming with relentless efficiency, razing the once burgeoning colony to a mere layer of ash upon the surface of the planetoid.. As they targeted the final structure left standing, their sensors picked up an outbound signal transmitted from within. A single weak voice echoed a refrain they had heard before, a descriptive combination based upon their ursine appearance and murderous methodology. ‘They’re TEDDY KILLERZ” the voice shrieked into the transmitter, “and they can’t be stopped!”

The TEDDY KILLERZ make their return to the EATBRAIN with the release of the CHOPPING MACHINES EP, following the impactful release of their earlier HELLBLADE EP on the label. DROP IT struts out of the gate with a bombastic neurofunk beat, whilst the title track CHOPPING MACHINES slices samples and basses with a flurry of sharp edged cuts. JESTER darkens the atmosphere before launching into a similarly fast paced assault, whilst AFRIKA takes a roots based approach to its production. The closing track, STELLAR, is an electric slice of halftime that radiates futuristic energy. Representing a multifaceted approach towards a further expansion of their sound, CHOPPING MACHINES sees the TEDDY KILLERZ in true dynamic form.

An observer stood upon a rooftop, gazing out over the metropolis that shimmered beneath him. To all outward appearances, it was an idyllic landscape. Busy & bustling, sure, but in ways that spoke of efficiency and the success of their kind. To them, it was a monument to their collective greatness that they could construct the steel-boned monoliths that reached upward to the heavens, but for the lone rooftop figure, a very different view was laid out below. His gaze cut through the superficial, and saw the city for what it truly was: a TORN PLACE.

Within his eyes those same monoliths represented not success in their glittering facades, but rather the greed, avarice, and corruption of those who dwelled within. He saw the rampant struggle to reach their peaks, the drive to triumph over one another, that also drove its champions to madness as they buckled under the weight of what they had done. As his gaze fell downwards the observer saw the destitute prostrate themselves upon the city’s streets, forced by some cruel twist of fate or the actions of those whom had climbed above. They gathered on these avenues as plaque within veins, their continued accumulation a warning sign of the city’s impending cardiac arrest. Alongside them streamed endless waves of vehicles, emitting choking clouds of black filth that spiralled into the air. So constant were they, that day and night a smog hung above the city, a poison that hung as a sword above all. As the observer took in these things, the city itself seemed to morph before his very eyes, changing its form in accordance with its monstrous nature. Faces upon billboards became malevolent visages with gaping mouths stretched wide in hunger. The towers, once glittering, unfurled before him like the tendrils of some primordial behemoth. All rushed towards him, consuming him within an endless expanse of darkness which was dispelled a moment later. The observer stood once more upon the rooftop, and the city shimmered once more beneath him. But for he who had seen its true nature, it could never be home again.

FOURWARD return to EATBRAIN with the TORN PLACE EP, their second release following their breakout Wolfe EP on the imprint. The four tracks within feature their sound in full, with the titular TORN PLACE providing grounds for it alone whilst other tracks feature a who’s-who of fellow heavy hitters on the EATBRAIN lineup. TORN PLACE opens the EP with cinematic flair, in which otherwordly narration and frantic basses occupy space in equal measure. FOURWARD combine with eatbrain bossman JADE on MAKE SOME, a driving track that pushes forward on the constant report of its stabbing bassline. REDPILL brings his horror infused sound to the table with DIGEST, a collaboration that calls on the pairing’s jump up influences amongst sinister saws. ELBOW features the sounds of L 33 alongside the FOURWARD crew and rises upon booming percussion before launching into a peak section of mechanized highs and rumbling lows. With the TORN PLACE EP, FOURWARD launch their multifaceted sound further onwards and upwards.
