Magic-Circles pour Piano seul

Among the simplest mathematical questions for which no one past or present has an answer, the Goldbach Conjecture seeks a proof that every even number equals the sum of two primes (in Goldbach's day, 1 counted as a prime, so no need to exclude 2).

The form of the question suggests a musical structure, namely a canon.  This canon will have one line for every prime number.
 Each line will consist of a single pitch but articulated many times in the rhythm of the odd prime numbers.   The various lines will begin with delays, compared to the first line, consisting of a prime number of beats.

The Goldbach conjecture then says that a note will sound on every beat of the canon.

This realization employs 26 lines, so only sums involving at least one small prime arise.    Not using all the lines eventually leads to empty beats.  

As the piece begins, the texture rapidly grows dense, even muddy.  But the primes naturally thin out their irregular distribution gives rise to a great variety of melodic patterns.

Instead of confining each line to a single pitch, this realization uses a design for occasionally inflecting each line chromatically, so as to project changes in tonality.  That said, the music never settles into a key, but rather hovers around different keys in different registers.
