Not much to say about this piece except that it was an exercise in editing.  Though the title I suppose was inspired by Nils Frahm's description of his working on the originals each night while recuperating.  I have the feeling that best of my pieces just happen (all of the hard work/practice been done on other pieces).. I don't think this piece falls into that category though perhaps it is helping me on my way.

Less Effort [disquiet0055-twoscrews]

No grand design for this project.  I rolled a die three times and received 4, 1, and 6 (O, A, and Y).  Then simply decided on three notes to correspond to the three vowels.  Recorded into Pro Tools and set about editing, pitch-shifting, and layering the three vowels.  There were a few iterations of the piece that had much more chaotic pulsing which in this version was edited down significantly.  I have to say that the very simple rules made for a nice way to spend my morning.

Well. I spent the first few months of the year in a whirlwind of theater work. After the pandemic began and the theaters shut down, I parented my two kids and worked on two radio theater productions. Here is to all the seen and unseen work.
