"I feel that this set is a good representation of the tunes I like to rep, with a contrast of moods and dynamic style of mixing. The first 10-15 min section is quite memorable for me, as I was really enjoying the energy the tunes were bringing out of each other. The third tune, which is from Florentino, is quite an upfront percussive banger, but when it comes in from the DJ Boss tune it’s just got a straight-up sexy quality, haha. Then the Youngsta tune after it just amplifies the hype. Plus: I got to give a shout to re:ni as I got very, very hyped playing one of her new bits! The Sputnik One bit sounding bloody epic too, and I played 3 tunes from Amor Satyr/Siu Mata – so I got to give him a special mention too!"

5enses is a cassette mix series centred around evoking the 5 senses curated by 404 Eros. For this chapter each DJ has been asked to embody the energy of Notting Hill Carnival. Each cassette tells their own unique narrative sonically and through the items accompanied for each 5ense.

For the 4th tape of our Carnival series, we invite Blazer Sound System, Colorado-born, NYC-based duo Zebrablood and Rainstick. The duo have become known for their epic reggae parties in apartments, abandoned restaurants, and just any corner of Brooklyn they can squeeze their custom sound system into.

A few words from Rainstick who took the reins on this mix....

Always dreamed of going to Notting Hill, but j'ouvert and carnival in Brooklyn has been a massive part of my adult life.  The biggest parade in the US, though increasingly militarized by the NYPD, is truly a mad ting.  Music from every corner for miles, pirates going 24/7, jerk grills smoking out Nostrand, frankincense pouring from the steel pan and jab jab HQs in deep Flatbush. Grabbing a fresh pine and ginger around the corner from 1234 Utica, police helicopters lighting the Rara krew like a movie, a life-saving cup of corn soup and dumplings at sunrise (then back to the Barbancourt).  Jumping the fence, chasing down the Hot 97 truck as the sun sets.  In special tribute to BK ragga hip hop bootleg culture, NYC party mix dj style, and with Love and Respect to Grenfell and beyond.  Enjoy!

As with the other tapes, all profits will go to Grenfell Foundation, the purpose of the foundation is to provide independent support to the former residents of Grenfell Tower, their families, dependents, and the local community.

Sunday Mix: Minor Science

CS + Kreme are an experimental music duo from Melbourne, Australia comprised of Conrad Standish (bass, electronics, vocals) and Sam Karmel (electronics). They have released on venerated labels such as Total Stasis, Wichelroede, Latency and, most prolifically - The Trilogy Tapes.
Their third full-length album for TTT is due in late September, entitled 'The Butterfly Drinks The Tears Of The Tortoise'.
Notable shows include the prestigious Bourse de la Commerce in Paris, Rewire Festival in the Hague, Atonal in Berlin, as well as performances spanning from New York to Tokyo.

Drunken Fist 🐉

In the misty mountain temples of the ancient provinces, there lived a forgotten master, Old Sage Kai, keeper of the Drunken Fist Riddim. Long ago, he traded discipline for divine groove, swapping sparring partners for sound systems and turning Shaolin forms into footwork funk.

They say he can’t walk straight but never misses a beat. With a flask of fermented peach wine in one hand and a cracked vinyl dubplate in the other, Kai shuffles, spins, and stumbles through the courtyard, looking like a madman, but striking with rhythm so sharp it makes dancers drop like dominoes.

His style blends broken kung fu stances with breakbeat syncopation, punctuated by slippery guzheng slides and chopped pipa plucks. Each stagger is a snare. Each sway is a sub. Behind him, a temple turned dancehall booms with ancient riddim energy, while paper lanterns sway to the groove like they’re nodding in approval.

"Drunken Fist" isn’t chaos, it’s controlled disarray, a celebration of asymmetry, groove, and sacred silliness. His mantra?

“Balance is for teapots, real style spills.”

Now, when the moon is full and the bass is heavy, locals whisper that if you skank just the right way, Master Kai might appear, wobbling through the smoke ready to show you a dancefloor technique that’s been banned for centuries.
