His sanctuary, once a dream, was slowly becoming a reality. People—beings—who shared his vision began to gather, drawn by his unwavering commitment to a life of empathy and respect. But it wasn’t easy. The forces that ruled his society saw him as a threat, and they would stop at nothing to maintain their grip on power.

Yet even as his vision took shape, a gnawing despair clung to him. The suffering he had witnessed, the indifference of his society, weighed heavily on his heart. He had spent so long fighting for compassion, but it seemed like an endless battle. His anger simmered beneath the surface, and the question he could never escape loomed larger with each passing day: What if none of this is enough?

He had always believed that empathy could heal the world, but he was haunted by the thought that his efforts might be futile. What if the cruelty of his society was too deeply rooted, too ingrained to be changed? What if the suffering would never stop, no matter how hard he fought against it?

More and more, he found himself asking: Why continue? The burden of being different, of caring when no one else did, was a weight he could barely carry. His sanctuary might be a safe haven for now, but would it ever truly change the world? Or was he just delaying the inevitable destruction his society would bring upon itself?

Despite the allies he had gathered, he was more alone than ever, caught between the hope of a compassionate future and the crushing reality of the world as it was. His anger, his frustration, his sadness—they threatened to overwhelm him. He had built his life on the belief that compassion was his greatest strength, but in the darkest moments, it felt like a weakness, leaving him vulnerable to the suffering he had fought so hard to reject.

And so, as the sanctuary grew and his followers looked to him for guidance, he was left wondering: For what?

When all is said and done, what will have been the point of it all? Was it worth cost If compassion lost?
