Each remix/mashup was created in realtime by "performing it" live using DJ software - in my case the DJ App/Tool "djay" (made by algoriddm) together with a standard DJ controller, though many times the controller was not critical and the apps intuitive touch UI on an iPhone or iPad would often suffice.  

The app becomes the playground to play and experiment with the original source material and other elements in realtime offering an immediacy that simply can't be matched. With djay any sound or music source material becomes pliable putty allowing you to sculpt in realtime: isolate and extract various parts (such as grabbing the vocals from a song), match tempos, match/change keys, layer and build, beat sync, loop, apply effects etc - all in realtime. 

Ideas and structure are iteratively worked out in the djay app with all the final elements assembled there ready to be performed and captured. A couple practice runs and then it's just a matter of hitting the record button and performing it.

For many of the tracks in this playlist there are a whole bunch of versions, some better than others, or with completely different vibes. The INXS track Need You Tonight appears here twice with two very different vibes as an example.

Amazing to live in a time where these tools exist and run comfortably in realtime on a iPhone including advanced audio signal processing AI that can literally isolate a track into "vocals", "percussion" and "harmony" parts in realtime letting you either isolate/solo those parts completely (like vocals), or mute them. Some artifacts time to time, but it's plenty good enough and you can always apply effects and EQ to tweak.

I have half a dozen or so other tracks, including reworks of classic Prince, Bowie, Donna Summer, but alas SoundCloud is refusing to permit those be made available based source detection and copyright, often randomly applied it feels. I suspect if I combine them into a longer single set upload they won't be struck down.

After an amazing response to an open call for demos last year, Sounds of Lava Lava is proud to present the first edition of its various artists compilation; WAVES.  All five tracks span the vast Electronic genre, from deep and mesmerising grooves to rough and raw dance floor weapons.

Mirko Hecktor kicks off the compilation with Aquaborn; a slow burner laid out over almost 7 minutes where delicate arpeggiated synths bounce alongside soft drums, warm bass lines, wandering keys and chopped vocal samples to create a hypnotising and almost meditative track. Following up is a debut from Scottish producer Lobos.  Hailing from Fife and now a part of Glasgow's thriving music scene, his track 5am Sunrise has an energy and excitement which is reminiscent of early 90’s UK dance records.  Looped synth lines and melodies playfully develop and distort throughout while driving kicks and clean percussion lead through moments of euphoria.

Chris & Reece keep it low and slow with Red Right Hand.  Squelching acid-tinged bass lines weave between thumping drum patterns and gritty piano stabs while Reece’s echoing vocals create an almost tangible atmosphere.

Making a return to Sounds of Lava Lava is Glaswegian duo Pentland Park.  With Never Go Back they take the energy up a level with punchy drums and chest-shaking sub bass tones.  Delicate vocal samples contrast with the sharp percussion, adding a layer of beauty to this raw groove.  Finally Max Raskin closes out the compilation with California Honey.  A true hardware enthusiast, Max combines crunching synth lines, shuffling drum patterns, spiralling keys and reverberating vocal hooks to make a true dance floor heater.

Next up and incoming at Pro B Tech Music, we warmly welcome another first-time original from Tulum Music - Soundscape Moog. This EP comes with 3 x Originals from Tulum, Soundscape Moog, Clipped Sweep & Players. In addition, we have 3 remixes to support: 1 from Bulldozer and 2 from Hernan Serrao. We kick things off with the title track Soundscape Moog, the guys take no prisoners here a full on 4/4 Prog monster, that has grinding basslines, pads and acid throughout, we love it. Next up is Clipped Sweep, this is another outstanding production from the guys, another outstanding slice of Prog, solid kick, driving bass guaranteed to destroy a dance floor, this is another biggie!! We then welcome back Bulldozer with their remix of Clipped Sweep, this maintains the drive of the original whilst taking things in slightly deeper direction, a very welcome return here. Finally on Clipped Sweep we have a very close friend and regular to Pro B coming in from Argentina Hernan Serrao, Hernan does what he does best, he lifts the sound and gives that South American, Argentinian feel we all love, outstanding. Next is the final original from the Tulum guys, Players, this is has a deeper feel to it but very much drive to it, something that will get your head down, feet moving, and hands in there through the break. Then last but not least we have Hernan back once again to give his work to Players, Once again Hernan lifts the sound, brings in more melodic elements which float through out whilst keeping things moving.
