After Midnight, Dancing

This classic Bach solo piece has always been a favorite of mine and I have looked for a time to arrange it. It's a tricky piece since the cello part is so "tricky." But it works well overlaid with jazzier chords and a subtle piano melody. Good friend and superb cellist Nicole Pinnell did an amazing job with this piece. Thanks also to engineer Don Murray deserves kudos for finding a place for every part to breath.

I approached arranging this song with trepidation. I mean, we're talking Sir Paul McCartney here. Anyway - nothing could be a s good as his original, but here is my arranging homage. (As always, Jenny is amazing on violin.)

Liverpool Suite (from "CLASSIC: The Rock Album")

This song, made famous by Joe Cocker, was composed by the late Billy Preston and has always been, for me, the quintessential love song. This is the first time I have ever arranged this piece and I doubt it could be played anymore beautifully than Jenny Oaks Baker did. (Found on her CD "CLASSIC: The Rock Album."

You Are So Beautiful

Here is a track from Innovators II, an album of songs inspired by and dedicated to amazing Olympic athletes. This song was written about Mirsada Buric who ran daily during the civil war in the former country of Yugoslavia.

An original Christmas carol that imagines what the mothers of the little shepherd boy, the little drummer boy, and the Christ child experienced as they watch their sons experience the first Christmas.

11 A Mother's Christmas Lullaby

A solo violin piece written to pay homage to the great Franz Klammer and his exciting gold medal run in the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck. The composition captures the dangerous slips, slides and exhilarating speed of the Austrian skier. NOTE: The piece is the exact length of his race.

Donner In Den Ohren (All I Heard Was Thunder)

A song composed for a movie about the biblical "Olive Tree Allegory." The song, though quite simple to sing is effective in it's simplicity and message - especially when performed by three female voices.

The Curse

This carol imagines three separate characters, all anticipating the birth of the Christ child. For each of them, this newborn baby represents a different thing - a Savior for a troubled soul, a shepherd to lead a young little boy, and a King who leads with love. 

Savior, Shepherd, And King

This song, one of several found in the popular family movie Rigoletto, is sung by the heroine Bonnie in the movie and speaks of finding the answers to her troubles within herself.

The Melody Within

This is a song that "didn't make the cut" or at least didn't make it on my latest album. Nonetheless, I wanted those that love introspective solo piano music to enjoy it. 

The piece, though slow like a requiem is actual the opposite of something "dead" or sad. It is actual meant to be a musical "slowing of the heart" played so one an hear everything between the beats.

The Words Beyond

A song composed high in the mountains of Utah by Bestor as he viewed the wind blowing through boughs of an ancient pine tree and wondering what the secrets this tree could tell.

Secret Of The Pines

The very first song Kurt Bestor arranged on his first album "Joyspring: Images - piano." Using the music of Dave Grusin (especially the them from "On Golden Pond), Bestor has taken a hymn and "painted" an exquisite watercolor painting.

Oh, How Lovely Was The Morning

This traditional hymn (music written in 1866 by John Grey) is arranged in a very "visual style" by Bestor with his trademark alternative harmonies and unique stylings.

Jesus, The Very Thought Of Thee

A contemplative song for piano from Kurt Bestor's album "Kurt Bestor and The Collective: Outside the Lines." Meant to capture the emotion evoked by French impressionistic painters like Monet, Renoir, Degas, and Cézanne, the piece paints a picture of a an idyllic scene drenched in the color indigo.

Morning Indigo

A song from the collaboration I did with author Richard Paul Evans. This song is about a little girl who dances in the summer sun while her adoring father watches.

Sundancing

This song never made it on an album, but since no one buys albums anymore, does it even matter?! I was trying to write a song for those moments that are too emotional to find words to describe.

This popular song has been reimagined by Emmy-award-winning composer Kurt Bestor in a style reminiscent of Aaron Copland. It paints a picture that takes a listener on a journey deeper than just the usual song with 3-4 verses.

Amazing Grace

A suite of songs based on the music from the move "Far and Away" and the music of Oscar-award-winning composer John Williams. This arrangement by Kurt Bestor is found on Jenny Oaks Baker's CD "Silver Screen Serenade" and features wildly technical violin packages (ala Paganini) and richly emotional melody lines.

This piece was commissioned by the BYU Ballroom Dance Company for their Standard Formation Team and recently was premiered (June 2, 2016)in Blackpool England by the team (who finished in 1st place.) The required dances needed to perform in the piece are Viennese Waltz, Quickstep, Waltz, Foxtrot, and Tango.

Where In The World Is Christmas

An uptempo caroling song that depicts the traditions of an "Olde Englishe Yule" - from hidden coins in Christmas pudding, boar's head bedecked in bays and rosemary, and the blushing maiden beneath the mistletoe. It's a song that you transport you and the audience back to "Christmas's Past."

Carol For A Yuletide Eve

This song was written as an homage to the late Russian skater who died of a heart attack at a very young age and his young skating partner and wife, Katia Gordeeva. The song traces their love from the early years of skating together, falling in love, and  achieving the pinnacle of success to his tragic death, her extreme sadness, and a final "Pas de Deux" as she skates with his memory.
