You shouldn't! They're terribly pretentious (even if they probably serve a purpose: better sound quality).

I hear you there. Again, I think we are presuming a uninformed audience. I always marvel at how much time and effort it must take to get to some of these insights or findings. And I often am skeptical of claims that are "too good to be true." Regadless, they all get me thinking… and that is extremely important in a world where other media doesn't challenge us in that way.

FYI: You don't color correct in Illustrator. That'd be Photoshop. And ask anyone who has the job of color correcting how many hours it can take them.

Nobody is "solving the problem" in 12 minutes. Or 18 minutes. They are contributing to the overall conversation and thinking in that time.

Here's where I think you need to stop critiquing it from a science perspective, to say, "We acknowledge that this is storytelling, and stories need endings… even if the ending is followed by a 'To be continued' slide." I never doubt that this is true—just look at all the talks that pop up as related items after a talk is viewed online!

Spot on again! But prior to TED Talks, that discovery would be cited only in journals, only to be considered by individuals at universities or practices who could afford to pay for those (pricey!) journals. What I appreciate about TED Talks, is that anyone of any age can challenge the assumptions, because they are now out there in the world. No one benefits from science being buried in the university library. Science doesn't benefit from the process of waiting around for someone to care enough about a problem to address it.

This would be a great addition to TED Talks—highlight the counterpoints. Give the dissenting opinion a voice. Revisit the discovery in 5 years time. You should suggest this to the TED Team.

It also runs the risk of not attracting new ideas, skill, or talent into an important field. Like it or not, the next generation of Psychologists may be the ones sparked by TED Talks, and perhaps those discoveries (or the pace of them) quickens, not because of the science changes, but because of the volume of scientists now entering the field.

Again, thanks for this program and contributing to the discourse. I really felt compelled by this one. I hope you don't take the points of contrast in any light other than one of respect.
