Following a string of remixes throughout 2016, and one of her busiest summers on the road, Cassy is rounding off the year on a high. Enter ‘Kwench Records’, a collaborative imprint she has created to represent honest and upfront House Music.

The remit is simple, on each release two or more artists will collaborate on EP original material, with a different artist joining the package on remix duty. 

They must not be afraid to experiment, nor do what comes naturally to them. And above all, trust in themselves and their instincts. This is something Cassy has proudly learned to master over her DJ career, and she now wishes to put out records in a creative space that encourages this approach.

For the first release, Cassy has called in one of her favourite House Music producers, Canada based Demuir, to collaborate with her.

Demuir’s ‘Derrick Does Disco’ EP which came out on Great Lakes Audio in 2016 was a favorite in Cassy’s sets throughout that year, even making it onto her Mixmag presents CD ‘Let’s Talk About Donna’, which
accompanied her cover in June.

The second release from Cassy’s new collaborative label ‘Kwench Records’ sees New York native Fred P turn in three stellar remixes of Cassy & Demuir’s ’Please Me’ from the labels inaugural release in November.
The remit for each release on the label is for two (or more) collaborating artists to produce original material, whilst a different artist will deliver one remix. However, after hearing three fantastic interpretations from Fred P, Cassy was adamant that the tracks were so special, they had to have their own release.

Cassy has been an admirer of Fred P’s work for many years. She loves the way his music is expressed and its immediate nature. 2017 has been a vintage year for Fred P, with his ‘Instinctive Rhythms’ EP and FP-Oner album ‘7’, garnering critical acclaim from across the board. The ‘Please Me Reshape Project’ continues the New Yorker’s fine vein of form across three mesmerising tracks. 
Kwench Records is a project centred around Cassy’s belief that dance music should be natural and a pure expression, a view shared by the artists she invites on board. Both Cassy and Fred P are practitioners of the label’s ethos, looking to create songs that resonate with the listener, as well as themselves.

The three remixes share Fred P’s inimitable sound, with the 10 minutes of his ‘Journey Mix’ slowly embracing and developing into a cosmic voyage. The ‘Fixation Mix’ is an up-tempo cut, with ambient synth keys perched over brooding bass notes. The final track from the EP, ‘Broken Vibes Mix’, features Cassy’s distinct vocals over carefully muffled claps and broken beat.

For the third release on Kwench Records, Cassy collaborates with Stockholm’s Art Alfie. Between them they deliver two diverse tracks brought together with a touch of class and Cassy’s distinct vocal. For the remix, German DJ / Producer Chris Count rounds off the EP by delivering an acid tinged version of ‘Solar’.
 
Although quite different, Cassy enjoys both Art Alfie and Chris Count’s productions for similar reasons. “Their music is produced so stylishly. You can tell they have put a lot of time into really listening to music. They know how to build in a natural way. I love that we have ended up with three totally different tracks on this release.” - Cassy
 
Art Alfie enjoyed a successful 2017 as a solo artist. His first project of the year, the ‘Reveries Of’ LP, released on none other than Studio Barnhus. This was swiftly followed up by another solo effort on his Karlovak imprint he runs alongside Mr Tophat. Both releases garnered plenty of support from across the DJ spectrum.

Although on the circuit for some time with releases on the likes of Dopewax, Intec, and Universal Music, Chris Count is a more recent and exciting discovery for Cassy, she is a big supporter of his releases.

Next up on Kwench Records is Tuccillo, an Italian house matriarch whose reputation as one of the most prolific producers in the current scene is the result of accumulating skills and knowledge across two decades. 
The Unblock Music label chief debuts on Cassy’s dance floor-orientated label after closing his three-month Ibiza residency Déjà Vu at HEART Ibiza, a summer smash that had him joined by booth legends DJ Sneak, Tony Humphries, Satoshi Tomiie, Jellybean Benitez, DJ Pippi and Tania Vulcano, among more. 
“I’ve been a huge admirer of Tuccillo’s output for many years and regularly tout him as a house music staple. He’s consistent, authentic and versatile, in that he can cross all spectrums of house music while retaining his individual touch. This EP sounds fresh, it’s club-ready with a soulful presence, and his beats are on absolute fire.” –  Cassy
Considering where Tuccillo has been utilising his skills this summer, first out the bag is the aptly titled ‘Get Loca’. Expanding his repertoire of super-deep, warm house grooves, this track is a sublime marriage of rolling drums that are elevated by seductive, softly spoken vocals. ‘People’s Dreams’ keeps the heart of the dance floor in its sights with muscular, clattering drums and horizon-gazing pads. Title track, ‘Questions’, is a solid, late-night entry that packs a hammering kick, with squelching beats, soul-warming chords and a vocal sample that encourages positive introspection.

Bringing a lustrous dose of disco-doused headiness to Cassy’s Kwench Records imprint is Australian
 producer Kristin Velvet with a stunning two-track outing.
Kristin Velvet has been infiltrating the dance music bubble for a decade on a global-wide scale.
Promoting and DJing in Tokyo was followed by a stint as Australian label manager of UK-based
imprint Domino Records, and most recently she’s enjoying cultivating a reputation as an essential
figure of Berlin’s club scene with her being on Watergate’s artist agency and co-running Berlin-based
house and techno label Arms & Legs with Daniel Steinberg and Nils Ohrmann.
“Road-ready club goodness is what Kwench Records stands to consistently deliver, whether that be
house or techno. Kristin has the flair and ability to experiment with both – she’s had Louie Vega and
Cari Lekebusch give her work a rerub which is proof of her broad appeal. She’s continuously proving

 Inspired by hallowed New York club Paradise Garage meets the ever-multifaceted Robert Hood and
 his alter ego Floorplan, her EP was hewn during a post-raving flash of creativity with her head in the
 studio and heart in the club.
This EP is one built on feelings, with powerhouse track ‘High Ache’ jumping out the bag to grab you
by the ankles. Authentic disco drums build anticipation before the uplifting strings come swinging
through, delivering a euphoric sense of satisfaction. ‘No Worries’ runs further with the disco dice as
we get a second feel-good workout, and it’s one that’s packed with sassy vocals and reach for air
moments.

Chicago-born, Sweden-based DJ and producer Amir Alexander is set to trigger dancefloors via Cassy’s motivated label Kwench Records with three invigorating house tracks. 

DJing since the early ‘90s and producing since the late ‘90s, Alexander is touted as an intuitive, assiduous innovator, with over two decades of inspiring and being inspired by club culture. Soon after linking up with local Chicago heroes Hakim Murphy and G.Marcell, he’d release tracks that would find themselves in the hands of underground DJs worldwide. He’d find more recognition in the 2000s, with career-defining EPs on labels Secretsundaze, Plan B Recordings, Argot and Just Jack Recordings; two full lengths Love & Fear and Dusk Til Dawn; and the launch of his labels Vanguard Sound and Anunnaki Cartel.

“Amir is one of those artists who leaves a lasting impression. We met last summer at a gig in Berlin, but I’ve been a fan for a very long time. His productions are laced with soul, and to be able to convey such a strong sense of self within music is such a special skill to have. First to bring a slice of Chi Town to Kwench Records is ‘Realest Of The Real Pt2’, with Alexander introducing his rap alias Ricky Spitzz over a chunky, kinetic cut. With ideals to show reverence to the Creator with every release, Alexander brings us to ‘Nobody But You Lord’ – a track built on warbling, distorted vocals, and piano chords which imbue the track with emotive depth. Stirring third track,’20,000 Fathoms Deep’, serves as an opportunity for Alexander to explore and advance the emotive facets of deep house.

Amassing a huge global following as a DJ, producer, record label boss and wildlife conservationist, he lands on Cassy’s label after an eventful six-month sprint. He’s dropped new tracks via his imprint No.19 Music as well as releasing tracks from Cassy, DJ Sneak and Tripmastaz through the imprint; toured across South America, Europe, East Asia and North America; dished up fresh solo material on The Martinez Brothers’ label Cuttin’ Headz; and worked tirelessly to promote peaceful co-existence with wildlife through his co-founded charity Music Against Animal Cruelty (MAAC).

“Jonny and I were residents at DC10 at the same time, so we’ve hung out many times and bounced off each other. There was a strong musical connection there from the beginning, and that’s stayed with us. Making moves on Cassy’s club-steady record label is New York-based DJ and producer Tommy Bones, with him bringing in renowned US vocalist and regular collaborator Lydia Rhodes who’s known for a string of seminal club anthems through the ‘90s and early ‘00s.

Born and raised in Connecticut, Tommy Bones’ fixation on house music and dancing
would pull him to the heady lights of New York in the early ‘90s. Rubbing shoulders
with living legends Lil’ Louie Vega, Kenny Dope and David Morales, and hitting
hallowed institutions Limelight, Sound Factory and Tunnel, he’d thrive in his environment. DJing led to producing in the 2000s, with his tracks landing on coveted labels Nervous Records, Dopewax, Strictly Rhythm, Defected and King Street. After over 20 years in the industry his passion continues to burn brightly, whether that be
through his productions, behind the DJ booth or via his now renowned weekly DJ broadcasts, 4-4 Sessions.

“I’ve had a go-to stash of Tommy’s tracks in my collection for years. His productions are vitalising, packed with energy and they absolutely lift a crowd. I actually met him at ADE last year while I was playing one of his tracks and hadn’t realised he was in
the booth behind me. Fantastic to finally have a moment with him face-to-face and
thank him for his music. I’ve road-tested his EP for Kwench and it is fire.” – Cassy

His two-track dispatch kicks off with engrossing title track featuring Lydia Rhodes, and we cut straight to the heat, with Bones’ blistering bassline and Rhodes laying it on thick with feverish vocals. ‘Acid Rain’ steams in second, relentless and uplifting,

Berlin-based DJ and producer Sebo K, known for distributing a distinctive stream of pristine cuts for over a decade, is next to step through for Cassy’s label Kwench Records. 

Known for being meticulous in his craft, the result is a stellar back catalogue of lauded-releases dispersed among label heavyweights Rekids, Mobilee Records, Ovum, Bass Culture Records, Robsoul Recordings and Tsuba, among more. Launching his DJ career in ‘90s Berlin, his affection for Chicago and New York house quickly bagged him gigs across the city, including a residency at Watergate since 2002, and from there he soon hit the road, making a beeline for far flung haunts across the globe.

“I’ve been around Sebo for years, and had the pleasure of playing for his Scenario parties at Watergate. Love him as a selector, and as a producer, you really just have to look at the calibre of labels he’s released for – that speaks for itself. To have him on Kwench Records was a no brainer and fans of the label will undoubtedly dig this one, big time.” - Cassy

Sebo K reaches for a stack of disco samples inspired by house sounds of the mid ‘90s to craft his Kwench dispatch, and it boots off with ‘New Steps’, a striking house cut, bolstered by a sample of American poet and civil rights activist Maya Angelou from her poem Pulse Of Morning. The Dub version of the title track cuts a slick figure, while ‘L.U.V’ sashays into the forefront, leading nodding heads to a sweet spot where disco prevails.

Cassy makes a welcomed return to her Kwench Records imprint with sensuous House EP; A Place For Us.

A Place For Us sits between a remix for Italo Johnson alongside Bambounou, and a track on the upcoming 20 Years of fabric compilation. Full of inspiration after a summer of hosting her Play House parties at Pacha Ibiza where Cassy strived to emulate a hedonistic and relaxed 90s New York vibe, she continues in the same vein with this release.

“It was always a dream of mine to make House tracks in the way I’ve heard them all these years, but I never quite felt I was developed enough as an artist. It’s a certain vibe you need to channel, and now it feels right. I was always experimenting with trippy Techno sounds, and Techno is so fulfilling when you are dancing to it for hours, it’s music you can lose yourself too. House is a feeling, and it’s helped bring the best out of my voice. I’m enjoying going there! I’m channelling everything from Lisa Stansfield to Master’s At Work, Naked Music, Todd Edwards, just to mention a few. All the elements I like together.”

Kicking off with the title track A Place For Us Cassy uses her vocal this time to spread a message, and take from it what you will “It’s an extremely important time for us to come together right now, I felt drawn to vocalise this.” The One is dreamy yet propulsive, with Cassy’s vocals subtly complimenting the beat.

Venerated DJ, producer and record label boss Ian Pooley makes his debut on Kwench Records next month, serving Cassy’s label its first release of 2020. 

Berlin-based Pooley is behind an arsenal of house and techno cuts stretching back to the early ‘90s, with his decade-spanning career earning him a hugely diverse audience. His extensive discography offers seven albums, including classics Meridian and Since Then; a stack of killer EPs that continue to grace the record boxes of DJs worldwide; and a string of outstanding remixes for Daft Punk, Yello, Sven Väth, Green Velvet and many more. More recently he’s fuelled his label Pooled Music with a run of self-releases, and continues to tour worldwide. 

“i was listening to Ian Pooley’s music years before I started DJing. He has so many epic tracks and the beautiful thing is, he’s still making music in the same vein. Pooley’s house tracks invariably endorse a deep, rhythmic sound while exuding warmth and authenticity. Title track ‘Good Things’ is a peak-time opening jam that adds power to the punch, while ‘Detour’ runs with the headiness, sending in uplifting disco elements and an unctuous groove. ‘In The Night’ rounds off the three-tracker with a propulsive kick, giving listeners a spirited, feel-good dousing of house music.
