ABOUT GiZ:

Giz is a passionate music selector based in Berlin. She's currently making her joyful babysteps in a musical journey which - overloaded with so much heartwarming inspiration -  began a few months ago.

She grew up listening to vinyls from all around the world with her music aficionado father, which no doubt plays a role in her choices in life and music. She speaks 6 languages and is very much moved by all languages (from Indonesian to Mandinka) and instruments of any kind.

Album Description:

A mythical creature of Iranian legends and fables, the Huma bird is also a common motif in Sufi and Diwan poetry. Although there are many legends about this bird, common to all is that the Huma is said never to land on the ground, and instead lives its entire life flying invisibly high above the earth.

Omerar Nanda's "Huma Kusu" takes its inspiration from an old Anatolian folk song. Once upon a time in Turkey, there were two passionate lovers: Mustafa and Gülbahar. The day after their wedding, the state called all young men of the country to the military. Mustafa left home, knowing that maybe he would never see Gülbahar again. Years passed, no news of Mustafa arrived. His family lost all hope. Gülbahar went out to the garden every morning and waited for his return. With each passing day, she cried and cried, until her tears dried up. Heartbroken by this loss, Mustafa’s father created a requiem in which he called on the Huma bird to bring hopeful news about Mustafa.

ABOUT Clandestina:

Clandestina is in love with music since a very early age when she started collecting tapes. Her first electronic passions were Drum’n’Bass and Goa Trance, together with 90s indie rock. She started DJing in the chill out stages of Psytrance parties in the mid 2000s and from there she evolved both musically and technically into an ambassador of electro-extravaganza where sounds of the world and different music genres merge on a beautiful flying carpet of compelling beats. When not DJing she morphs back into Chiara Baldini, who lives in South Portugal, is the curator of the cultural area of Boom Festival and is an independent researcher into the evolution of the ecstatic cult in the west, which includes the cult of Kybele.

Archaeological evidence from prehistoric times suggests that the Earth was once viewed as a living, female being. Ancient texts and mythologies support the idea of a female deity associated with the earth and all life. The Phyrigian Earth Mother Kybele was one such figure among many and represented the earth, mountains, caverns, and all nature, the birth of humanity, the universe and everything in it. 

Inspired by this timeless and universal vision, this project is dedicated to featuring and celebrating the bounty and beauty of the creative works of women in music through special podcasts, original releases, and mixtapes curated by women producers, DJs, and musicians of a wide range of genres from around the world. 

In addition to highlighting the works of women in music, Kybele develops opportunities for broader inclusion of and greater collaboration among emerging and established artists  of all backgrounds through the "Friends of Kybele" series.
