ABOUT Barbarella:

Barbarella is a DJ and producer from Dresden / Germany. As music has always been an important part of her life, she was testing and collecting really different styles, before she finally found her home in deep,  melodic and bassy sounds from all over the globe, somewhere between tradition and modernity. The major influence on her musical creation emerges from the Spanish-speaking parts of the world, with a special dedication and love for Cumbia, as you can hear in her sets and productions. Barbarella is also a member of the duo "Pauken & Trompeten", organizing parties in her hometown and hosting a podcast series.

Archaeological evidence from prehistoric times suggests that the Earth was once viewed as a living, female being. Ancient texts and mythologies support the idea of a female deity associated with the earth and all life. The Phyrigian Earth Mother Kybele was one such figure among many and represented the earth, mountains, caverns, and all nature, the birth of humanity, the universe and everything in it. 

Inspired by this timeless and universal vision, this project is dedicated to featuring and celebrating the bounty and beauty of the creative works of women in music through special podcasts, original releases, and mixtapes curated by women producers, DJs, and musicians of a wide range of genres from around the world. 

In addition to highlighting the works of women in music, Kybele develops opportunities for broader inclusion of and greater collaboration among emerging and established artists  of all backgrounds through the "Friends of Kybele" series.
