There aren't many rappers walking the real Edgewood streets of East Atlanta's Zone 6. The real vs fake debate can be made for most of today's artists, not just trendsetting ATLiens, but rappers from every region have to deal with authenticity issues. In walks VL Deck, a self-described Section 8 resident. So project gutter that labels wouldn't consider signing the young kid whose initials stand for Vicious Living (the Deck is a street name he's had since diapers). After being brushed off and looked over by so many, the perpetual underdog with the raspy southern voice named his self-financed imprint S8Ent. Willing himself to succeed, VL Deck found his tone, and began to speak to the people in a way that resonated. Armed with the voice of a baptist preacher and the vernaclar of a geechie red dirt georgia native, Deck's verses became sermons; and the congregration grew rapidly. Remaining consistent "on both sides" has led to collaborations with Future, Young Thug, 21 Savage & others; a great boost to streaming numbers, but not celebrated due to the loss of his brother to street violence. The pain was a blow that affected everything around VL Deck. Yet he worked through that fog to emerge triumphant. With red tape slowing down the release of breakout project "BJ4L", VL pulls out a few jewels from his current sessions for an exclusive release with datpiff. This 6 song EP is a masterpiece for its niche. Passionate and agressive. Celebratory & retrospective. Project Music Volume 1 speaks to the heart of the hardcore street rap fan.

This is the way it works at Section 8 Ent.-  CEO & chief rhyme spitter VL Deck is constantly recording new music, sharpening his skills, sharing his story. But all this recording also creates a problem - a vault of unreleased music that the fans may never hear.

Not at Section 8 - not with VL Deck, "I'm not holding my music. Not for no deal negotiations, or make believe results. My music is for the 8 - and Ima keep my music in the streets & keep my ppl inspired!" 

With all the jewels and affluence, anyone can see that Lil Deck has come a long way from his "takin days" of Edgewood Courts. In 2019, Section 8 Ent is gearing up for the greater impact of multiple releases from its CEO. 

VL explains his release schedule like this: "Trap Pastor gon drop when I feel like it - next 30-60 days. #BJ4L gon drop when I feel like it - before the summer. I dropped 2 projects so far this year.....I might add 2 mo to the schedule and drop 6 projects this year. Maybe more. It's not about flooding or rushing the process. I do this for the trenches. Ain't a lotta rappers tryna motivate the slums - most never really been in the 8 or lived in the 8. If they did you would hear more real stories of the losses and the pain we endure fighting our way outta this shit. Look at my life man.  I'm jeweled up, million plus streams a month - and if I don't get up everyday and go get some money Ima be homeless & all fucked up. That's true for so many ppl out here man. I'm blessed to have something goin on, but I remember all the days when having ANYTHING was a wish. We ain't wishing no more. We here now! Ima keep feeding these streets motivation. I ain't preaching - I'm teaching - but you can call me the #TrapPastor. I stand in the gap for the streets!"

a Pastor is someone who preaches the Gospel - the word Pastor also means shepherd because he leads the people safely to sanctuary and away from danger.

Zone 6’s VL Deck seemed stuck in the trenches for a long time. Refusing to follow the majority of artists who seek major label publicity (often at the expense of their ownership). The man known as Vicious Living Deck invested it all in himself & his Section 8 Ent label. Project after project was  released & embraced by the ppl the music was meant to touch: the trenches.

Years of steady growth under the radar  & away from the new internet gimickry trends mislead some ppl into believing VL Deck wasn’t a viable artist. They say trap is dying, gotta do something different,  rap has no use for another trap artist. All these statements ring true in a way from a music perspective, but in real life there’s an element of our society who survives day to day without ever learning what “living” is. These are VL Deck’s  growing congregation.

I’m proof to them and to the world that you can be yourself and make it. I’m proud to say that all the features on my projects is based on real relationships.
