Mountain of youth

Heartbreak shakes the soul and domestic violence leaves scars so deep that they will take a lifetime to heal. I moved from the north to the south in the middle of a very long cold winter in 2001. I surrounded myself with people who didn't want anything from me, they were people who loved me. This song was the beginning of my healing. 

Sister rain

I wrote this song while up in my home community, the Lheidli T'enneh, near Prince George, BC. It was August, a time for hunting and gathering. My Mom lives next to the rail road tracks and the train whistle is a constant, night and day. The moon was full and bright and this song flowed out. 

Purple Fingers


'Over There' is about my late father Ernie Gouchie and the song is a reflection of his personality and his infectious humour and good spirit. When I sing, "You're down by the river, where the river runs wide..." I am referring to the Lheidli T'enneh Memorial Park burial site because that is where my father was buried on a cold snowy day in February 2007. The song pokes fun at the other side because dying is the other side of living and its something we will all experience. My Dad was like a crow, he loved collecting shiny things and always wanted the most expensive guitars and fancy cars. He worked at the Shelley Sawmill for many years and was an ordained preacher. He traveled all over the place singing the gospel, preaching the word of God and giving away his money and sometimes even his clothes. Now he's an eagle and his spirit soars free. 

Over There

Canada is in a time of healing and reconciliation. Residential Schools left an ugly scar on First Nations People and on Canada's history. As an inter-generational residential school survivor, I was inspired to write this song while doing a video project in the Okanagan. I interviewed the late Joey Pierre Sr. and what he said moved me. I asked him what he thought of Stephen Harper's apology to residential school survivors and he told me that it meant nothing. He said, "You see that church down the road from my house. I have seen how much money they spend to keep it going. I've seen all the renovations and upkeep." He said, "I am not against God. But if they were to tear down the church and build houses for the people, that would mean something to me." This became the opening line of my song. The song is about resilience, it is about acknowledging what happened and then moving forward towards healing and reconciliation.

For the People

I wrote this song in October 2015. It is a tribute to the Murdered & Missing Indigenous Women and Girls. All proceeds of the download sales and CD sales will be donated to the Carrier Sekani Family Service Highway of Tears Initiative.

She’s no stranger to the stage with 20 + years experience of gigging and touring. In June 2014 she released her debut album titled ‘Mountain of Youth’, a compilation of original songs that help sum up her life story of love, loss and healing.
