A Consolidated B-24J Liberator CO-150-BS 44-40210 854th, 491st BG, 8th AFpor hit by flak on September 18, 1944, during a mission of delivering supplies at low altitude in the Eindhoven, Netherlands. The plane was hit in the right wing so the pilot, Captain James Hunter, decided to land in a field after losing the third engine at a height of about 15 m., Finally crashing several hundred meters away. Of the 10 crew, there was only one survivor, Sergeant Frank DiPalma, who remained hidden from the Germans in a Franciscan monastery until the British liberated the city.
