A little something I made to familiarize myself with FL Studio. Not something I'm especially proud of, but I spent enough time on it to feel the need to put it out there. To summarize my thoughts on this particular work, I think that, while sometimes pleasing to the ear, there is very little to make this song stand out due to a lack of tone/theming. Additionally, some parts don't sound right to me and I'm not sure what mastering techniques I could use to improve them.

I'm feeling more familiar with the tools I'm using and I hope that it shows. I'm just glad that this track seems to have some amount of coherence, at least compared to the last one. This may even be worth using later on in another product of mine if I get the chance.

It's funny and a little frustrating that I keep starting work with something in particular that I want to make, ending up with a completely different sound, and never getting to what I wanted in the first place. Ideally that won't be as much of an issue as I learn more with time.

More musick. It's probably weird of me to take as much pride as I do in the sounds I design using Vital, being that I'm such a beginner, but I am proud nonetheless. This song is relatively long at nearly six minutes, but I feel that I justified the length well enough. I've been trying to improve mastering at least a bit and was astonished at how huge the improvement was when simply adding Soundgoodizer or Maximus into the master channel. Still, manual mastering via automation clips will probably be the better choice should I ever reach some amount of expertise. The ultimate improvement would probably be to learn and apply music theory into what I'm composing since, so far, all I've done is just put down whatever pops into my head.

Generators used were Vital, Drumpad, Boobass, and FL Slayer. Samples used were "Loose Snare," "808 Kick," "808 HiHat," and "707 Tom."

Something I actually finished a few weeks ago but didn't feel inspired to publish. Now, on a lonely, contemplative night, I do. I had set out just to make a simple song using just a few basic noises, unlike I usually do, to see if it would be significantly easier. I'm happy with the result, but the more energetic and complex songs are what I'm more inclined to imagine.

Questions in the Dark

An attempt to make something similar to the combat music in Deus Ex, though mostly just in structure. It's hard to say for myself whether I succeeded, as with any goal that I set out for with music. The music of Deus Ex is something of an ideal model for me, so I suppose that I thought that trying to imitate it would be a good way to make progress.
